I thought of the perfect business in Laredo, TX today. Guarantee that you'll make millions per year.

Easy!!!

Open up a store on TX Loop 20 that sells the following items:

OMG - does the DOT even exist down there? I've forgotten just how horrible those truck are down there. I'd say that most of the trucks haven't went through a PTI since the truck rolled off the assembly line.

And congress wants to allow that to run all over the U.S.? :evil: I can tell ya what D.O.T would sure have a field day and I bet all the scales would be jam packed with Mexican trucks sitting out of service.

And, have they learned what RED LIGHTS mean at the intersections? I've seen quite a number of NEAR MISSES because a Mexican Bobtail could not wait for the light to turn green. I also heard that the Laredo cops could not give them tickets for it.

Also got to see a Mexican driver dump his load of steel conduit all over Mines Road. Several hours before traffic could get through, and I'll bet there was no ticket on that one either. Just one 2" strap on each stack of 10' buncles. He went around a corner, and they straps didn't hold.

I can actually give Swift some credit here. At least they make the effort to give their Trans-Mex fleet current, roadworthy equipment, and to make them into a professional fleet. Unfortunately, they seem to be the exception to the rule, and if these carriers are going to be allowed to operate on US soil, then I definitely don't want to be on the road anymore.

I spoke with someone a few months ago who has a neighbor who is a DOT officer. She told me that the DOT guy said they have been told to take a "hands off" approach to Mexican trucks. I suppose they have different standards. :roll:
