I 25 closed 8/28 in Denver

I 25 will be closed in Denver in both directions from I 70 to 6th Avenue on Thursday evening beginning at 5 PM, the state DOT will begin the process of closing the highway at approximately 3 PM. The road will re-open sometime after 10 PM, or whenever the Obama rally at Mile High is over.

If you must travel though the area that evening there are several routes to bypass the closure. Keep in mind that traffic will probably be a nightmare no matter what direction you take.

North and South, if you are completely bypassing Denver, use E 470 to get around. Yes, it is a toll road so have adequate cash to pay for it. There is talk about suspending the tolls for the time I 25 is closed, but the last I heard that hasn't been finalized so be prepared.

I 70 Eastbound to I 25 Southbound, use C 470.

I 70 Westbound to I 25 Southbound, use I 225.

I 70 either direction to I 25 Northbound, or I 25 to either direction on I 70, the ramps will be open as normal, or use I 76 or I 270 if you normally do that. Keep in mind that the mousetrap (where 70 and 25 meet) will probably be ugly.

There will be detours set up throughout the city to get around the closures, but do not try them in a truck.

Whatever you do, be prepared and plan ahead if you are going through this area Thursday afternoon to evening.
