U.S/U.K Truckstops, comparison
I was wondering if you guys have your eyes ripped out and your scrotum torn apart by unscrupulous greedy bastards like we do.
An example(I`ve taken the pound to equal two dollars for ease of reckoning) Tebay truckstop in the Lake District 1) Overnight parking $24 2)Shower $5 3)Lasagne and fries $12 4)Hamburger(No fries or anything else) $6 5)1/2 litre beer $3 See my point? Parking here and having meal(not just burger) taking a shower and relaxing with one glass of beer would set you back best part of $50! No wonder I only visit the place to deposit my faeces Are your truckstops highwaymen too? |

Shower: $7 - $9 (free if you buy at least 50 gallons of diesel) Lasagna and fries: Not a clue - I don't know of any truckstop that sells lasagna. Hamburger (no fries): $4 - $5 1/2 litre of beer: Not available. The only way to buy alcohol in a truckstop is to buy it in cans or bottles, and not all truckstops sell alcohol. |
Thanks for comparison Rev.
Since you mention fuel.... We currently pay around $10:50 per gallon in most truckstops; how does that compare? |

You might want to compare general cost of living, as well. You stack shelves here, you might be paid $7/hr, whereas I made ?9/hr doing the exact same thing in Northumberland. Even though it comes out to over twice as much when compared in exchange rates, making ?9/hr. there is not the same as making over $18/hr. here.

I've considered that too. There's no way someone could pull a load for $1.50/mile (with the surcharge added in) and pay $10.50/gal like they can here.

Must have been nightshift was it? Northumberland eh? I`m a Geordie and proud of it |
Truck stops???? What truck stops... I have a wide spot on the road...a "pull-out", but it's a spot to sleep.... MAYBE if I'm lucky there will be an outhouse there....
As far as costs go... upwards of $6/gallon for diesel & that's a self-serve cardlock Meals...well that's the GOOD thing...usually around 15$ all included meals, meaning full meal...NOT a greasy burger :D :D , drink & dessert... enough to make you ROLL out to your truck   Mostly a spot for a couple of trucks. Yesterday I stopped at a place called ...don't laugh... Muckluk Annie's, & had baked salmon....all you can eat homemade buns, salad bar & baked salmon for $18...THEN she asked me if I was ready for dessert...I took it with me!   |
