You sure do have a very good point thats for sure! When I go down there Friday I'll ask them to write me up one.

I am starting to wonder if OSHA or their insurance company found out about it and got in trouble for. :?

It could be that the company's insurance company found out you were "underage" according to their criteria for the type of work you were doing.

That would certainly be no fault of yours, but it's still BS.

Splitshifter; Glad things were not like that when I was that age.

I told you before- moving company. Thats where I got my CDL :wink: You're almost 18 and its hhg season. Plus, theres like 20 agents for various carriers right in your area (as we discussed). You can drive under their authority without having to get qualified with the carrier (ie: local driver).

Big Wheel: I was inspecting rail cars, getting on top of them and taking samples of the product. I was also washing and detailing trucks along with helping out in the shop and painting.

Bandit Cousin: I may look into it but the problem is I got one more year of high school left but it's all half days so the earliest I'd be able to come in is at noon. I'm apart of the Co-op program which is like a work study program I guess you could call it, go to school for a couple hours and work after that. But I'll look into HHG and see what I can dig up.

Work full-time at a HHG agent for the summer. HHG slows down in the fall. Finish HS but also ask the HHG agent if they do Commercial Moving. If they do, tell them to call you for those jobs in the fall and winter. Most of those are evening and weekend moves. Next summer work full-time and go from there. I got my CDL from a HHG mover and when I started I was hired for the commercial divsion and did HHG in the summer. We had collage and HS kids that did what I just explained. Once they provied themselfs they were tained to drive and get there CDL.

I would bet that the owner found out a 17 y/o kid was climbing around haz-mat tank cars and taking samples and wanted no part of that legal liability, nor would any other sane businessman....

What BanditsCousin and Double R said about HHG is very solid advice to get started in this business. Thats advice that you dont see around here too often. I'd pretty much take it and run with it and be thankful you now have that knowledge. You could be gettin the standard advice - "apply with Swift".

If that dont work out, go get your permit (study and know it now), and try the garbage haulers. Lets face it man, messin with tanker cars and working at a peterbilt dealer really isnt getting you any further in getting your foot in the door. You might as well be working at wal-mart as far as "experience" go's. Good luck, hope you figure somethin out and get that shiney new cdl!
