How's your truck doin'?
What kind of truck do you have, what year is it, how long have you had it, and how well has it held up for you?
I drive a 2007 Volvo VN 670. I've had it for a year, and it currently has 174,800 miles on it. So far, the truck has performed extremely well and hasn't had any major problems. The few problems that I did have were pretty minor. Some kind of module or maybe a relay for the Jake Brake went bad. I guess that could be considered major depending on if you look at it from a safety standpoint. Had to have the windshield replaced because of a flying chunk of ice that blew off of another vehicle. I hit a deer and it sheered off the passenger's side headlamp and fog lamp. That's pretty much it for me. |
I'm in an '05 Volvo 670. The truck has around 370k miles on it. My company acquired this truck from Knight last December. I was assigned to it in early January.
Repairs so far: Starter A/C compressor Turbo 3x fixing turbo leaks (and heading back to the shop for the 4th time) Exhaust header pipe Exhaust flex pipe Muffler (the exhaust items were all at different times) ECM BCM some other stuff i've forgotten |

It's a 2005 Freightliner Century. It's got about 420,000 on the ticker (needs an A service) and I've had it since a little more than 405k. Knock on wood, but the only repairs so far have been the damage done before I picked it up and the mirror that got ripped apart in a truck stop one night. No idea what has been done before.
The Jake brake seems a little weak, so I'm gonna have someone take a look at it. |
Carlos, are you ready for the story on my lemon Volvo. Probably not but here goes anyway :)
My truck is a 2007 VNL64T300 with their new 16D Liter engine. It was built in Oct. 2006 so it doesn't have the new emission stuff on it. The first thing that happened was at 250 miles the coolant all leaked out and it took 10 gallons of water and my screwdriver to re-install the bottom radiator hose and re-clamp it to get back to the dealer. (I had to fight with them to install new coolant at no charge as if it was my fault they didn't check the clamps). After 1500 miles the coolant system wiring harness had to be changed as it seeped coolant into the contacts and coroded them out. (I have had three harnesses installed so far). It started going through oil so I took it in and they changed or added the copper seals they thought they didn't originally need. It worked for a while but then went through a gallon and a half of oil in 65 miles. They replaced the engine wire harness this time (They say it runs under the head to the injectors and the epoxy they used originally wasn't strong enough. (They have a new epoxy now). They have so far installed a new Turbo, Headlight Relay Fuses, ECU upgrade, and the newest malfunction a crankcase pressure switch. This last one was to cost me over $2000 because I have had the truck over one year. I told them that it was not fair because I have less than 20,000 miles on this truck. Not only that but when the tow truck company towed me in, they didn't can the brakes and I had to replace the drums and brakes on my number two axle. The company said they were not liable as they had sufficient pressure to activate them. The other maddening thing is that for a brand new truck it is a slug. I have wine bottling equipment in my trailer and weigh in under 65,000 lbs. total and can barely maintain 45mph up a 3.5% grade. I had the Horsepower increased to 500 from 450 but still can't keep my speed up. I had it on the dyno and it seems ok, but I am not sure I am getting the 1650 foot lbs of torque I am supposed to. My boost pressure barely hits 30. I am going to dyno it again next week to see if I got what I was supposed to with the upgrade. I am sorry this is such a long post, but I am so frustrated I could scream. My old freightliner cabover with 400 Hp walks away from it. (I had to bring it out of nonop when this highpriced new truck was in the shop). One good thing is that I can always drown my sorrows with good california wine. :) |
I drive a 2008 Peterbilt. It has a C13 Cat engine and a little over 30k on it. I gotta say I'm not very impressed with cat this year. I found that on my way home from SC. that the cam follower in number 4 cylinder let loose and flattened out out the lobe in that spot. As it's a new truck, Cat is having some difficulty in finding parts for this beast and I'm stuck in Bloomington IL. until the 5th of june waiting for the shop to put it back together so I can take my load home. But hey, all that being said, I love the rest of the truck....lol

I own a 1988 379 ex hood 3406b Cat. I have had it for almost 4 years now and after the 1st month I had to have the engine rebuilt. the very next year I had to replace the tranny. it has 1407500 miles and that's all that's been done in 20 years.... I love it. It drives like a dream... :D :D

1999 Freightliner Classic 586,000mi I've been driving it about four months now and the only two problems is the a/c has quit working and I somehow managed to break the drivers seat.
