Need your opinion

I need your opinion on something I got a 89 Ford F150 with almost 35,000 miles on it not sure if it's original or not, I'll be running it more than 40 miles a day when I start my job this summer putting 200+ miles on it in a week. I'm debating if I should keep it and put some money into it or should I sell it and get me something newer. I looked at the KBB and it's worth only $865 for trade in. I should of got a Chevy or GMC but I got a good deal on the Ford and really needed it at that time. It's a 5spd and the clutch was just replaced and I plan on replacing the oil pan gasket Saturday. Opinions will be appreciate even smart ass comments!

KEEP IT!

Almost any repair made to the truck will be cheaper than a new truck payment. And I am in the same boat as you, my old pick up is worth more to me than anyone else.

Double L 04-17-2008 12:40 PM

I guess it would be cheaper to add a new air intake, cherry bomb exhaust, and all that stuff to improve performance and horsepower than a truck payment. lol It does have the 4.9L Straight 6 in it and I hear those are the most reliable engines Ford has ever made.

I have heard the same thing. If you get cherry bombs be prepared for me to yell obscenities at you if you drive in front of my house

Double L 04-17-2008 12:54 PM

 Glad I don't live in Maryland. But right now the fuel milage sucks on it and it's costing me an arm and leg so I'm glad the Pete dealer called me so I got 2 1/2 months of being a kid left but ya know I'll be working on the trucks and driving the trucks so I can't complain! 8) Thanks MDKW

Mackman 04-17-2008 12:57 PM

Where do you live again MD i might have to make a road trip on my stright pipes harley lol. If its to loud your too old.

BigDiesel 04-17-2008 01:24 PM

You are under 18 and not able to enter a legal and binding finance contract from a bank....

Double L 04-17-2008 01:26 PM

I planned on doing this when I turn 18 this summer which is when I start my new job. Also I plan on putting a set of air horns on the top of my truck where my cousin had his hunting lights at! I don't feel like finding out why my regular horn isn't working yeah I can be lazy who isn't? lol

Young man.... you do not have any credit at your age, so you will need a co-signer with excellent credit to obtain financing...... Sigh......

Double L 04-17-2008 02:05 PM

Yeah I knew that part of it BD

I have a 87 ford f150 4x4 with 173,4??? miles on it. 302 with a 4 speed truck trans. I have done things with this truck that make most people crinj but it just keeps goin. I change the oil every once in a while and put air in the tires. I would take it to California and back if someone would buy me some tires! :) Keep it! you wont be sorry if you do. By the way, I get 13 mpg.

Double L 04-17-2008 02:16 PM

Not a bad ride Dave, alright I'll keep it, I'm sure once I get done what I want done the gas milage will improve on it. I had to clean up the wiring cause it was a mess and I only had it since January, I got it cause I needed something at the moment cause mom's car was in the shop so it was either buy that or walk everywhere. Was it a bad deal no because my cousin had it but I do know the clutch has been replaced cause I replaced it myself when it went out on me, I know the fuel stuff is new but not sure about the engine though. The only way I'm getting rid of my truck is when I get my 79 El Camino!

I have an 86 Automatic F-150 302, gets 12mpg.. Only worries is make sure your fuel valve is working, if you have 2 tanks.. There are 3 fuel pumps, 1 in each tank there low pressure, and 1 high pressure under your driver door... My model has a fuel filter in the fuel valve wich works off of pressure..
Other than that Love it.. Tough Pickups.

Double L 04-17-2008 02:43 PM

I got two fuel tanks but I'm only running the rear one cause there isn't a front fuel tank.

Oh ya; I had to replace the fuel relay under the hood. The first one rotted out and left me stranded in the parking lot at my work 20! :D

Double L 04-18-2008 08:01 AM

Yeah my line came off the canister that is under the hood, I was heading home and next thing you know my truck died on me, and when I tried to start it I could smell fuel and seen a big puddle so I put the line back on and haven't had any problems since. I got some plans for that truck that I think I can complete by the end of the year but it may not add any trade in value to the truck whenever I do decide to sell it.

Double L 04-18-2008 12:30 PM

Actually I decided when I get this job when I turn 18 I'm gonna trade in my truck for a 00-newer Chevy/GMC 1500 ext cab. Maybe I'll get a Chevy/GMC 2500 with the duramax diesel. I haven't decided, I prefer the diesel for the fuel economy.

Mackman 04-18-2008 12:38 PM

FORD POWERSTROKE!!!!!!!!

Double L 04-18-2008 12:43 PM

Fords are JUNK!!! I'm a born and raised Chevy man, I only got that Ford cause I needed something to drive at that time.

Real Men dont wear bowties LOL. You can have them chevys with the IFS. There 4x4's look 2wheel driver. Also the duramax diesel is a JAP motor. The only thing chevys got going for them in the alsion tranny other then that they are all junk.

Mackman 04-18-2008 12:58 PM

Wheres them chevys at me and my ford are ready to eat them up and spit them out.

Now thats a nice ride, I always did like Dodge 2500 and the Cummins turbo package which is what I'd really like to have. I'll let ya know what I get when the time comes.

Mackman 04-18-2008 01:11 PM

The cummins is a good motor in a pickup. I wish they made a ford with a cummins that would be the best pickup.

Double L 04-18-2008 01:12 PM

I'll agree, you can't beat a Cummins, I heard CAT maybe getting out the heavy class 8 diesel manufacture game.

I been hearing that for a while now. I dont think it is happing. My buddy is a diesel tech for CAT he told be he heard that cat might be coming out with there own Class 8 Truck in 2010. But it is all hear say.

Double L 04-18-2008 01:26 PM

Yeah but either way I see it, everyone is gonna be making their own engines, Well Freightliner, Volvo, and Mack have their own and Kenworth and Peterbilt are developing their own along with International. Most of CATs money is coming from the mining and construction equipment they make.

There, fixed it for ya.

Double L 04-19-2008 10:01 AM

I knew that Splitshifter, Mack's new MP10 is combination of Mack and Volvo engines.

Double L 04-19-2008 10:49 AM

I was looking at a 05 Silverado for $17,000 with only 40,000 miles on it, I did some figuring and if I get the job making $9.50 an hour I'd be able to afford the 24 month plan for $750 a month. Which in all honestly isn't bad cause I'd still have plenty of spending money left over so I can't complain. Then again I don't have any bills to pay except gas and maintenance. 8)
