What's the best Navigator/GPS to use on a truck?
I'd like to hear from some folks regarding knowledge of any good portable navigator/gps systems to use in your truck.
My honey uses one occasionally - in city - especially when his co gives him screwy directions - which is frequently :x :x He currently has a Magellan Roadmate 760gps and it worked well for a little over a year then started crapping out. It started acting up way before the manufacturer released their annual update, now we're afraid to update it and then turn around and buy another unit. He ignores the highway routing as it usually isn't jiving with his routing, (unless by coincidence), but we're interested in what systems work well for the folks out there. Thanks in advance. Keep 'em rolling safely... |
Do a search - there are many, many posts about different systems.

Thanks, but frankly, I find it quite maddening to search out information and have to sort through that much crap to get an answer. That and the fact that new equipment comes out all the time.

Sorry - I've made a ton of posts myself about GPS systems for trucks. If searching for the posts on this forum is too much work, sorry.

Thanks though! |
Common sense and..............
I have a Garmin Nuvi 350. It has an option for trucks. It is decent. The truck option keeps you on truck legal routes but it will route you off of them to get to your destination. Doing multi-stop food deliveries it has got me to where I need to be with out incident. Here is good site that has alot of add-ons(custom POIs) for GPS systems. They have one for low clearences(read the disclaimer), weigh stations, truck stops, etc. POI-FACTORY |
I've been wondering about the GPS deal as well.. seems like there is a ton of them out there. It's good to see that there are plenty of updates available, as well as trucker specific GPS systems. I'm curious though, on the trucker specific GPS, does it also have hazmat routes?

Thanks though! Pretty much quitting gordon is my biggest regret in life but I did it and that's that. I went on to drive local and didn't make any money nor have any fun. So I'm back out OTR and loving it. I'm here to stay. Before anyone asks, I didn't go back to gordon because I want to run EAST all the time! I'll post a review along with photos after a couple trips with the gps. I just want it for getting off the highway and getting to a customer. That's where I have most of my problems with horrible directions or hidden street signs. |
