Drivers arrested for selling company fuel!

News Flash - Wednesday, March 26th

Houston, TX

Love's Truck Stop

2 Company drivers arrested for selling fuel out of their trucks, and one O/O for purchasing the fuel! The Police report did not say what company! It stated the drivers ran as a tandem operation - not sure how many outfits do that! Seems they had reported several times, in different locations that fuel had been stolen from their trucks while parked over night. The company officials set-up waiting for them, based their load assignments and delivery times. Sure enough, they were on Channel 19 advertising fuel for $2.00/gallon!

Within 10 minutes, and O/O offered to purchase the fuel, pulled his truck in-between the company drivers trucks, that had left a space in between. Police waited for the individuals to actually start pumping the fuel, video taping the operation. Arrest were made, the company trucks according to the report were released to the company and the O/O truck was seached and impounded!

The report claimed an estimated $5000 dollars, possibly more, stolen from the company by those two drivers! It also made note that the charges filed were federal felonies, due to the involvement of interstate commerce!
I am sure the drivers are no longer employed, and even if they do not serve jail time, with a Felony arrest, will have a hard time getting good work driving again!

Articles have also been posted in the paper in San Antonio, regarding fuel thefts and sting operations!

IS IT WORTH the RISK??

Unfortunately, you're going to see a lot more of this happening. With the price of fuel as high as it is, it's going to be hard for some company low-lifes to resist making money off some O/O low-lifes that are ready to fold and willing to break the law to steal a few bucks worth of fuel.

Houston TX...probably werner drivers , there are tons of Werner drivers in that area ,and many of them selling that company cheap fuel ,which has been going on way before fuel hit even just $3.00 gallon ,however back a few years ago cheap was 1.00 a gallon now it's $2.00-2.50 a gallon . I rember Werner making so if you fueled you couldn't fuel for atleast 4 hours again this was due to theft . The company I work for now limits your card to 300 gallons every 24hr . To me if I have 300 gallongs of fuel and I sell 100-150 gallongs for $2.00 i've only made $200.00 -300.00 dollars , which is hardly a sum, of money worth risking a criminal record for ...not to mention trying to get a job after theft of company property think how that would look on a dac.

Most drivers that see the fuel do so when sat for a day or miles a low ,and the company doesn't compensate for it , so the driver supplemts the missing income by selling fuel...not bright but if the company paid the employee better I bet this would be a rare instance .

That's the first thing I thought of too! I remember how he defended himself for doing it too - that he was innocent in the entire operation.

This was not there first rodeo! They had a 12 volt pump with a meter! I have seen some that will run 8 to 10 gallons a minute, easy! The police report stated that the company had been looking into this for a couple of months, so it was not a one time deal!

I checked the Houston paper the next day, it had not made public news yet!

Oh, the other funny things I heard (rumor) on the CB, is that other drivers warned these two that the law was on the property! They just kept on with the advertising and the act itself! Kinda like the Vice Squad that works the truck stops around Shreveport, everyone knows they are there, but drivers get busted every night for soliciting the lot lizzards!

good on them. anyone low enough to take from others or use thier card company card to give someone discounted fuel earned the right to jail time and paying the company back for the fuel they sold. they are lowlife scum that makes life harder for the rest of us.

I'm curious here, what did the O/O do so wrong to lose his truck in this? So he bought cheap fuel, so the govt. doesn't get their nice kickback in taxes from the fuel he bought, what's so wrong about that? He paid for it fair and square, he didn't steal it.

It's called theft by receiving. He knew or SHOULD have known it was stolen.
