HDTV

Well, I am putting up some money in savings for a new HDTV.. Anyway, I hear that in a year or so, the regular TVs will no longer be useful.

Ok...here is the point of this thread.
What is the best brand to get? I like Vizio. They seemed to be cheaper.
What do the pixels mean? For an example, 1366 by 768. What pixels would be best? What do pixels, and the size of the screen have to do with each other?
Resolutions. I dont know anything about them, either. :?
I dont know anything about the HDTVs. I'm sure there are a lot more things to learn about HDTVs, but I have a year or so before I have to get one. As I said, I am trying to put some moolah in savings.

I was lucky enough to get a 58 inch Panasonic plasma HDTV for Christmas. I got it on the day after Thanksgiving sale at Costco for $1900. It is the 720p model as opposed to the 1080i. The 720p is supposed to be better viewing for sports with less blur than the 1080i, and it's cheaper too.

It is not true that analog TV's will no longer work in Feb of 2009, they will work if you get your reception through satellite or cable.

Hopefully, I can help.

Pixels are what Pixies use to make their dust. You know Pixie Dust. It is magic. Look a close at your TV screen sometime, especially with a drop of water on it and see the colors and you will understand.

Size, ask your wife about this one. If she grins, you have it made, if she hims and haws, well, sorry. Size matters!

Resolutions are what most of us make on Jan 1st and break by Jan 2nd. Pay no attention to them, they are worthless.

If I can be of any more help, let me know. :D

ROFLMAO.............

Seriously though;

1080i----is true HD 1080 pixels(points of light/color detail(resolution) along the horizontal screen-- the I stands for Interlaced----which isn't as
GOOD as 720p ----the P stands for progressive scan---better technology better quality picture--just less detailed resolution- the current (non- HD) broadcast NFL games are being captured 720x480 resolution ---so the reason (for now) that the 720p is less 'blur' is because you're not stretching 720pixs into 1080 and later on in the future you'll still be fine shrinking 1080 pix down to 720 will still look- great. The progressive scanning allows for a much smoother transition/changing of the color of pixels independently of the surrounding pixels(interlaced)

Get one that has a PC input jack in the back--so you can use it as a computer monitor.

and the reason Analog TV's won't work after Feb 2009- is because TV stations will all be broadcasting in Digital only- As long as you have a converter box- like Sat Receiver, Cable box----your Analog will still have a picture.

You will also be able to buy a converter box for use with an antenna.
