Under the WTO. All nations given most favored nation trade status pay the same tariff rates as other countries. It is reciprocal to our goods entering those countries also.
Under NAFTA products entering from Canada or Mexico are tariff free. The rising problem is determining the country of origin. The under valuation of the Chinese currency in relation to the dollar, make our goods more expensive. American exporters prices are being undercut and helps fuel the huge trade deficits. So, with the under valuation, the Communist Chinese are collecting "excess" tariffs from American exporters. Hardly offsets. |
And this is always what the tinfoil sombrero wearers DONT get. The European union was created to beat the US into the ground. A unified north America could do the same thing. None of these countries in Europe gave up their countries or identities. They banded together as economic partners and standardized everything to make it easier for trade. Americas don't want to deal with poor brown people, so they leave them to starve and gt bitter. This has caused a lot of the problems in Central and South America and of course Mexico. Some of these high nosed American snobs need to figure it out. The only way to survive is to unify this continent before the radicals muslims, neo-communists and dictators take the rest and rightly show that the US is just a fat hog just waiting for slaughter.

Fozzy:
I think the problems in Mexico, Central America and South America are created by their own repressive governments. Not us. Instead of invading and occupying Iraq, we should have sent the troops down to Mexico City to overthrow that corrupt government. Sure would make for a better future for the hemisphere. Then maybe we wouldnt have to pander to them constantly. Maybe those disgruntled citizens should stay in their own country and overthrow their banana governments and create a better country themselves. Why should we give up our jobs and standard of living by taking in all their disgruntled citizens, and in effect allowing the banana dictators to stay in power? Well, the answer is cheap labor for corporate America. A endless supply of ignorant cheap labor. I am somewhat surprised you have given up hope so easily. We still can be the country we have always been, but as you said, indirectly, we do need to get off our fat asses and do something about it. Fortunately in 2008 we can get rid of some of the morons in Washington that have sold this country down the river. Let's all hope we don't make the same mistake again, or Fozzy, you might be correct, our best days will certainly be behide us. |

We're too busy "putting down tyranny", or "nation building" as President Clinton called it. We have stuck our nose into too many other nations business. We were a country formed by revolt and war. But yet how many times have we intervened in the very same modern day situation. If a country with the power and resources like the U.S. existed during the revolutionary war to assist England, the U.S. may have to never come to fruition. The fact that we've assisted the U.N. hasn't helped either. Case in point Somalia. The "war" in Iraq is a classic example of infuriating jidadist and accelerating the terror movement worldwide. It was a made up war with falsified intelligence and the rest of the world knows it. There was no real WMD and there was no credible threat to the U.S.. The so called "axis of evil" was on the verge of total collapse and was a barely functioning government. There was no Al Queda. At least not until AFTER we invaded Iraq. To date our country has spent, get ready for this, $455,000,000,000 on the "war" in Iraq. We are set to spend another $180,000,000,000 in 2008. We will have spent almost $650 BILLION. Think of the other areas we could have spent that money on. Health care, education, national parks, roads, etc. Meanwhile, Afganistan is losing ground. The Taliban is in the middle of a resurgence and Binladen STILL is not captured. Why? Because of this stupid and expensive war in Iraq that has given fuel to the fire for those who wish us dead. So is any any wonder why people want to kill Americans and destroy us when we wantanly invade countries because we're settling a score for our presidents father? Yeah, so what the hell, let's invade Mexico like GordoUSA would like to. The middle east hates us, so why not include all of latin America while we're at it. |

You missed my point. I totally agree with your opinion on Iraq. I was trying to make the point of if there was some sort of gov't in Mexico, something we should have done 30 years ago, we wouldnt have the illegals are rushing here, and we wouldnt need the so callled NAU> But its too late now. The morons in Washington have really "screwed the pooch" now. |

Actually, Afghanistan is moving forward quite nicely.
Canadians are kicking ass in the talibans "homeland" Kandahar. Rebuilding schools, roads, digging wells, girls going to school, new jobs. If that doesn't spell progress, I dont know what does. |
