Got LUCKY!!

Yesterday I was driving down Texas FM 83 South of Shamrock when I topped a hill and noted a DOT vehicle on the side with the officer standing in the middle of the road waving me over. Pulled over and parked right behind his truck. He informed me that I was going to get a level 1 inspection, I gave him my license, and showed him my log book. He walked to the rear and just as he was about to check my lights I heard a LOUD jake brake of a truck topping the hill. The officer literally RAN to the cab, handed me my license back and said "you can go." As he RAN to his truck I could see a "93" flashing on the radar on the dash.

Works for me, SUCKS to be the other driver!!

This morning I was doing a pre-trip (had a little time while loading) and found the end of one of my slack adjusters broken off. Glad that other truck saved me from an "out of service!"

Man, sounds like a close shave.
Good that you were able to roll, without having fines.
I've seen the DOT boys out this week. There is a DOT man that lives in Knox City. He had a dry van pulled over outside of Benjamin the other day. There is also a DOT man in Dickens, (drives a regular DPS patrol car) and he had a flatbed yesterday.

I believe I have seen more DOT this week than ever! 3 DOT and 1 regular between Burnet Ranch Road and 369 yesterday (don't worry everyone, Jackrabbit will know where I am talking about :) )

In Cheyenne, Ok yesterday OK Dot was pulling over every oversize that went by. Looked like an oversize convention everyone sitting there waiting on permits.

Yeah, it's funny that you said that. My dad, and I went fishing yesterday morning. We went to Middle Lake, which is a mile or so north of the Iowa Park pickle parks on 287. (exit off on Johnson Rd) I saw a DOT pickup, sitting on the shoulder.

My dad, and I went fishing again, this morning at Gordon Lake. Right there on 287, at 368.
I saw a DOT Tahoe, twice. Once rolling north, and then later, south. :|

Drove it 3 miles to the TA repair shop, got it fixed then and there.

Excuse my ignorance, but are you saying that it is COMMON PRACTICE for oversized loads to run without permits??

Real Lucky!

Speaking about getting lucky-guys and gals. I decided that I was too tired to be waiting in the middle lane while heading north of Weed, CA last week. I wanted to park it and sleep. I passed a fast truck and was having a great time in the hammer lane. A car came up behind me and flashed it's lights at me. I thought, "Oh well, I'll get over when I get past this other truck."

Well, as I passed the other truck and got over in middle lane the car was pacing me in the slow lane and flashed a light at me. Low and behold it was CHP. Boy, was I lucky. He must have had something more important to do than to pull a slow truck over. I almost had a heart attack when I realized who had flashed their lights on me in the hammer lane.

Then that wasn't enough excitement... I was in Oregon flying down a mountain thinking what a great "Western Day" it was-this is a sunny blue sky day to me.

After flying over the mountain pass and nearing 70 miles an hour, I saw a Highway Patrol on the side of the road. I made certain that I was on the brakes as I passed him. He came out after I passed him about a 1/2 mile. Fortunately for me, a four wheeler had flown up behind me and made me look really slow even though it's only 55 in Oregon for big trucks.

I think my luck may be running out so I better be careful from now on! :) 8)

Actually in THAT neck of the woods,it is a fairly common practice. LOTS of oilfield activity up there, and the rig movers will usually "risk it" and eat a ticket rather than sit around waiting for permits.

Sometimes they are only moving a rig less than a mile, and the sooner they get her moved and set-up the quicker she can start earning her 16k a day!!!

Its a game that the LEO's and the drilling companies play on a fairly regular basis
