WHOOOOOA.......

OK, from the pros here, what caused the accident and how should the driver have avoided the situation?

Trucker_Matt 09-07-2007 02:20 PM

its hard to tell, because we dont know the road conditions.

but my guess is loss of control because if overturning and speed.

Looks like this truck may have been from a CDL school. There were six occupants in the truck!

Quote:

MESQUITE, Texas --

A semi trailer sideswiped a fire truck on westbound Interstate 30 in Mesquite sending four firefighters to a hospital.

The fire engine was at the scene of an automobile accident on the westbound lanes of the highway east of Northwest Drive when it was struck at about 1:15 p.m.

Four fire personnel on board the engine were taken to Baylor Medical Center in Dallas with non-life-threatening injuries.

Six people in the semi truck refused medical treatment at the scene.

All but one lane of westbound Interstate-30 was closed tying up traffic.

If the truck was from Toronto, I would automatically assume it was just full of our newest drivers from Pakistan. We've had incidents of unlicensed drivers taking controls while the one licensed driver slept, with the inevitable accident. A local trucker was killed here a coule of years ago when the one licensed driver went into the bunk and put his unlicensed nephew at the wheel. He lost control, went across the median and hit the other truck head-on. Killed all three of them.

My guess (and it's just a personal opinion):

The driver simply wasn't paying attention. He was cruising along fiddling with his radio, talking on the cell phone, something when he glances up and sees the flashing lights. When he saw them he jammed on the brakes which, because of the wet roads, caused him to jackknife.

I didn't see any 4-wheelers anywhere in the close vicinity, so that one's all on the driver.

All I can say is JEEEEEZ!!! I need to get a copy of that video to show to our rookies in the firehouse. Perfect example why we position our truck like the one in the video.

What the heck were six people doing in the truck in the first place? Even when I hear of trainers taking rookies out in the school truck, there are usually only 4 at a time.

If they weren't students, most companies have major restrictions on how many passengers. I seriously doubt a company would let a driver have five other passengers, or two drivers have four other passengers.

Did the driver have a license to drive a CMV? Was that a stolen truck? How tired was the driver? We already know he was stupid for going fast on wet roads. The roads were wet, or else the emergency vehicle wouldn't have had his wipers on. Or did one of the passengers distract the driver and caused the crash?

Anyone have any more details?
