Strangest cargo you've hauled
OK, here is mine. Umpteen years ago, I was hauling aircargo. One day
I've had the "pleasure" to haul BULL SPERM flown in from Holland. (Hmmmmm, how did they get it?) |
Uhh, don't know what it was! But it was refrigerated and had to be kept at 5 degrees above zero - try doing that with a reefer in the middle of the Mojave in August.
Took it to a gate at Edwards Air Force Base, pulled in, they took the keys and the truck, brought it back about an hour lately empty, steam cleaned and paperwork signed. I had pulled meat to Edward many times and delivered myself, but this load was a little different. Guess the world will never know, or do we!!! Later |
Here are some of the loads I considered strange:
1 pallet (6 pcs) of freight from LA to just south of the Twin Cities. Bulk (loose) feed corn in a dry van. Hay in a dry van. Defective caskets. |
Almost forgot.
Delivered several pallets of restraints (handcuff, leg restraints, etc.) to several prisons in Indiana once. |
Well I have two. The first was a load of bottled water that I hauled around the country for a month before unloading it in Columbus, Ga. ( Katrina ). The Second was 3 sheets of 4 x 6 foot egg-crate type foam from Ct. to Alanta, Ga. at a rail yard bound for Tx. Net weight= 11 lbs.

Cant say that Ive hauled "strange" cargo: but Ive had my share of "wasted diesel" trips. Took 3 pallets from Hazleton Pa, 2 went to Canton Oh, 1 went to Saginaw Mi, then return to Hazleton MT.
I got to haul a truckload of the last Harry Potter books to an LTL company for there local delivery. That was kinda unique, Had to keep the trailer locked and sealed, couldnt tell anybody what I was hauling. |
A new "newsroom" for downtown New Orleans from N.C. Pretty neat to do.. now its all probably in a land fill somewhere..
|
My best was a single 12 foot aluminum extension ladder for 600 miles. They did great load planning for that trip.
I also picked up 5 tiny rolls of paper - probably 200# each - and hauled them from York, PA to Laredo, TX. The entire load sat on the metal plate at the front of the trailer. |

That was on strangest jobs a while back.
My company regularly hauls that stuff. I've also hauled snake bite venon into manitoba. Problem is, we have no poisonous snakes. |
