Anyone seen the NEW trucks?

:D While cruising down the interstate the other day I noticed many big rigs in all makes, models, sizes, and shapes but haven't yet seen any of the ultra-new rigs such as the Volvo 880s and Freightliner Cascadias. Anyone seen any of these rigs on the road yet? 8)

allan5oh 07-30-2007 09:39 AM

I see tons of VT880's for a while now, especially in northern ontario.

Reimer express has a few prostars out.

There's also a different Canadian company, can't remember the name, they have LOTS of T660's.

The Cascadia isn't out yet.

Rev.Vassago 07-30-2007 09:49 AM

I've seen a few of the 389's, but very few. I'm sure they will start picking up later in the year.

A lot of the reason why you probably aren't seeing many of the new-new trucks is that businesses were buying pre-2007 emissions trucks last year in record numbers. Sales have been down so far this year, but will be picking up again soon.

allan5oh 07-30-2007 10:02 AM

The rev is right, all the new models(other then the 880) are 2008 model year with the new emissions.

Now I remember, JR hall is the company with the T660's.

Mr. Ford95 07-30-2007 10:33 AM

I've seen a number of Walmart rigs running the 389 and a few Werner O/O's running them.

Drew10 07-30-2007 11:54 AM

Ive seen the KW T660, Pete 389, Volvo 880, the new International (cant remember the model)

Ive never seen Walmart using a large car, you sure it was a 389, also you sure it was a Werner O/O running a 389, and not a company truck.

jeremyh 07-30-2007 11:54 AM

What kind of mileage would someone expect to get with these trucks that have new emissions standards? I heard that it's not going to be nearly as good as the old trucks would have got? My question is why would someone want to pay money into something that they would eventually lose money on. That being said, if it helps the environment then I'm all for it :) lol.

allan5oh 07-30-2007 11:58 AM

See that's the thing, less efficient engines, but better aerodynamics.

There's talk about building diesels that are more efficient, but that may include more technology and price.

silvan 07-30-2007 01:12 PM

I'm not paying any attention to Volvo, so I don't know if I've seen one or not. New Internationals (with that funky chrome smile), KWs, Petes, and that gawdawful hideous Freightshaker, yes. I'm seeing more and more of the T660s in particular, and a good number of those Cascadias. WTF was Freightshaker thinking.

On this topic, I wonder about the new trucks. Every place I fuel still has those stickers to the effect of "WARNING: LOW SULFUR DIESEL. USE IN TRUCKS OF MODEL YEAR 2007 AND NEWER STRICTLY PROHIBITED."

So where do these people buy their go juice?

About 99% of the truckstops are now selling Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel, so it's not an issue.

I've seen the 880's for the past 9 months or so and saw a new International last week. Those sure are some purty trucks. In fact, when I was getting loaded last Friday a 880 pulled in the dock next to me. It sure made my 2002 770 look like crap

Go past Walmart's new DC in Minersville, PA, right off exit 119 on I81. They have all brand new large cars for thier drivers. You can see the lot from the interstate.

Im past there quite often, I see mostly Pete 388's, no 389's

07-30-2007 01:55 PM

I Hate to be the second person to disagree with you but I would think you are seeing 386's at Wal-Mart and not 389's Wal Mart is right in the middle of all that super effecitient fuel management research and stuff all the way to the point that they are tinkering with Peterbilt Hybrid tractors...they have a tone of the 386's which are aero types....I seriously doubt that they would get a fleet full of flat nosed large cars these days....but if you say you saw them, who am i to argue. But are you sure this isnt the trucks you are seeing?

Drew10 07-30-2007 02:03 PM

Yup your right they are 386's, I just seconded guessed myself, I had to go to Peterbilt site myself to be sure. I knew the werent 389s at the Walmart. I did get the model wrong. They are 386's.

Double R 07-30-2007 02:05 PM

I might have got the model wrong but they do run petes. Looks like the 386's.

Mack2 07-30-2007 02:44 PM

I've seen one of the Pete 389's a few 880's and a Prostar at our International.

The International is dog ass ugly.

Mr. Ford95 07-30-2007 09:37 PM

Yep, it was the 386, my bad. I have seen some 389's though. I remember that upper hump on them as being ugly considering the rest of the truck looked like the former 379.

Jackrabbit379 07-31-2007 02:48 AM

I wouldnt know what the new Volvo looks like. They all look the same to me, so I dont know if I've seen any new ones. I dont pay any attention to them. :P I've seen a lot of the 386s. I havent seen a 389 yet. I would like to.

I was looking at the truckpaper, and came across this one.

Yeah, that's a pretty good size bedroom.

Midnight Flyer 07-31-2007 03:14 AM

:D That new Cornbinder Prostar looks like a cross between a T2000, a Freightshaker Columbia, and a Pete 387!

New trucks

One thing....Everyone is saying that the new trucks are not going to get very good fuel mileage.....Well I have to disagree. I have a 2008 Volvo and now have 60,000 miles on it. I average 7.35 mpg. And I haul quite heavy loads usually about 40,000-44,000 lbs.

My thought on the new Cascadia :? What an ugly truck!!!! The most stupid thing I see is No sunvisor. No only does it look retarded but the sun coming into the front of the cab must be killer.
