Below Is an idea I had a for truck stop, just something I drew up to pass the time.

I havent been to a truck stop yet, About on average how many pumps would there be

brian griffin 07-17-2007 06:42 AM

That looks alright. But i think one pressing issue is that the spaces, in all truckstops(and rest areas for that matter) NEED TO BE LONGER.

How would you address this?

Just yesterday i parked (or at least tried to) at the carney's pt. flying J with a single axle daycab and 53' trailer but i still stuck out a good 5 feet beyond the end of the lines!!!

This is not going to get better before it gets worse.

Useless 07-17-2007 06:46 AM

A nice effort, Madlux, but you forgot to include parking spaces and a kiosk for the lot lizards!!

Jackrabbit379 07-17-2007 06:54 AM

Dont forget the burrito shop across the street. :P

MADLUX 07-17-2007 07:03 AM

go 2 more pics, the shower houses, one with just a plain layout, and one in detail

Nothing is to scale, heck this would never happen unless I win the lotto. 8)

But the space would be long enough to accommodate the common tractor with a 53 foot trailer

Sounds like a winning formula for being forever parted from your lotto winnings!!

Jackrabbit379 07-17-2007 11:46 AM

Who knows Madlux, you might be a blue print architect some day. :P

TruckerChris 07-18-2007 12:44 AM

I have a feeling those walls between the center island spots are going to be knocked down real fast. Especially when those flatbedders try and back up

Actually..according to the Truckstop special onHistory channel last night....an "Average" Truckstop net's $7.4 Million per year. Saw Iowa80 on it last night.

slowmoe20 07-18-2007 02:42 AM

Unfortunately Iowa 80 is not your "average" t/s. Most of them are nowhere near that nice/big. Cool ideas though.

The only reason the walls are there is so no one hits the rear end of the other trailer, and it wouldnt be that tall anyway.

might have to think about that part more....

Mackman 07-18-2007 06:36 AM

you need a truck wash

Collard Greens 07-18-2007 10:39 AM

Where is the barbeque pit area for those weekends when we run short and want to have a big shingding.

Yeah!! And where are all the piles of dogsh*t all over the barbeque pit area??

Where is a pavillion for all of the gold chain salesmen who hang out in the T/S parking lot??

And where are all the dudes walking around with empty gas cans trying to "get some money for gas so that they can take care of their homeless grandmother, who is a retired Catholic Nun, and who is now living by a parking meter on a coin operated resperator"??

And this guy thinks he can design a truck stop??

lol i get that all the time

Over the miles as I pulled into all kinds of truck stops, I always thought about what they were doing wrong.

1) Fuel island should never be at the entrance. Trucks should have to loop around the outside of the property to get to them so if there is a problem, trucks needing to park don't have to wait in line with them. Think the Flying J just north of SLC on the eastbound side. It has two entrances for trucks. Fuel or park. Very wise move. The Pilot in Gary, IN has pumps that are way inside the property not near the entrance.

2) I love the idea of shower stations in various locations on the property. Iowa 80 does this or no?

3) NO BLIND SIDE PARKING SPOTS!!!! 8)

4) Lots of pull through spots.

TruckerChris 07-18-2007 10:21 PM

How about a gym? It will be empty since everyone will be at arby's pigging out so I can workout alone and in peace.

DBW 07-18-2007 11:29 PM

You need to add overhead sprinkler systems to the IdleAire obstacle that goes off on a timer daily in a similar manner to what the rich folks do with their lawns in order to wash away the dumped out urine from pee bottles to reduce the smell.

Collard Greens 07-19-2007 05:23 AM

Dont forget he theater and computer room. Also a pet area. OH yeah parking for bobtails and car parking for local drivers who will park their trucks in designated parking area set up for them. What about the fishing pond and the beach area.

I know the drawing doesnt show it but off the entry ramp there would be 3 lanes, the 2 right lanes for pumps, and the 3rd to enter the parking area.

for #3 depending on the size of the lot, i would try to have enough room so you can make a hard turn and pull up stright, and then stright line back it in.

If this ever happened, I put put a small amount of stuff in the store, there will be glass display to put them all in ( cb in the glass display, common small parts on display racks.). If the items sell at a good pace and there is a demand, then there would be room to expand for a full cb shop.

Something else I haven't thought of is including a service bay, more stuff to add 8) , and more green to make 8)

Ah, ok. I thought he drove already, and just didn't like truckstops. Some drivers don't, you know.

geomon 07-20-2007 09:41 AM

I believe he drives a straight truck delivering seafood around the Chesapeake Bay area.

What he means, Cluggy, is that HE HAS NOT BEEN TO A TRUCKSTOP YET!!

Which means that his phone will soon be ringing off the wall!!

Pilot and LUVS will be calling him, wanting to offer him a job designing their truck stops!!

Duuuuuhhh!!

silvan 07-20-2007 01:49 PM

Why is the exit in a completely different place from the entrance? What is this supposed to accomplish?

Come in off of X Avenue, tired as hell, go to bed, get up, take the exit onto Q Street and spend half an hour trying to figure out where the blue bloody hell you are now. It's hard enough finding your way back in the morning without throwing this loop into the mix. I think it's a dumb idea.

Hey, on good ideas, how about making it an old fashioned TRUCK stop. Not one of these newfangled Fourwheelers Clogging Things Up With Japanese People In Tour Bus Centers that have slowly been taking over the world for my entire driving career.

(I came precariously close to crapping in my pants today because of a @#%@#%@% tour bus. I hate tour buses. Freight should not have to crap, and it should not talk. Freight should be silent, and stay where you put it until you tell it otherwise.)

(An amusing aside, when Daddy is driving the family somewhere, and the kids are blah blah blahing and driving Daddy nuts, Daddy has been known to turn his head around, and yell "BE FREIGHT!!!" to the cargo weighing down the back seats, or even the shotgun seat (which makes Mommy put on her bitchy face.) I think I would get fired really fast if I ever tried my hand at driving a bus. Especially a school bus.)
