Fergetabotit. Unless you want to break the law, and regulations, and work your a$$ off.. to be paid barely anything....
You should seriously think again. If you just want to be alone and live in your truck, that is the way to go..... Only been doing this for 2 years and I'm already burned out.

Sounds like you need to find a real company to work for.

So AndyP...you've got a wife, a family, you're breaking the law and regulations, you're working your a$$ off for hardly any $$, you don't want to be alone living in your truck all the time, and you're burned out.

If so, it's time for you to be thinking of a dedicated or local route....

My thoughts exactly. With 2 years experience and a clean record ( it is clean isn't it? ) you should be able to have your pick of jobs.

The main problem issues in long haul trucking that i see are as follows:

In addition, i have "developed" a new philosophy concerning OTR trucking (see #1)

1) Where are you going to park tonight? If you cannot answer with at least a 95% certainty, we have a substantial problem. And, answers like at a truckstop or rest area don't count----because are you at least 95% certain you'll find a spot?

2)Inadequate ventilation in the sleeping area.

3) Barely adequate light control (darkness) in the sleeping area.

4) Inadequate sound control (too loud) in the sleeping area.

5) Temperature control good in the sleeping area but at the expense of #4 and vibration. So, really #5 is no good either.

6) Where are you going to go to the bathroom? In the sleeper with a porta potty IS NOT an acceptable answer. At the risk of offending animals, WHAT ARE YOU, AN ANIMAL?

7) Where are you going to take a shower. This along with #6 are rhetorical questions. I know you can go to a truckstop, but come on.

8 Cab conditions still too loud, and could be more comfortable. Class a Trucks should be(and could be) as comfortable to drive as a silverado or F-150 or Ram pickup.

So, if the above issues can be resolved satisfactorily, then OTR trucking is not a bad job with above average pay.

Let's face it, assuming you are getting the miles, you are not starving.
