Bicycle Rack for Truck?
I'm a truck driver. I'm also an avid bicycle rider. I was wondering if anyone knows if they make a rack of some sort to securely mount a bicycle to a truck. There's not enough room inside the cab for me to put the bike in there with me (although that would be preferred for security reasons).
Thanks. |
Re: Bicycle Rack for Truck?
Well, I just used a lot of rope and did all I could to keep the rope tight. The road grime and dirt kind of ruined it though.

What kinda truck do you have ? If its not a condo and you have a fairing on top you could put it in ther if theres room. Ive seen alot straped to the back of sleepers too, maybe get a good cover or tarp for it so it dont get ruined like brians , an atv cover... bol

If you drove a condo, you could keep the bike on the upper bunk strapped in with the safety net (would be a hassle getting it in/out of the cab).
The bikes that I do see on tractors are usually bungee-corded abundantly in the back of the sleeper area. Some flatbedders have 'em attached on their skate boards. You could go to your favorite bike shop and have them noodle on it and make some suggestions.... Keep in mind that if you're a company driver, the company may not want you drilling/attaching anything in the back of the sleeper area. Snap! Perhaps another driver designed a rack and didn't take it with him when he left the company. Ask the mechanics...you never know.... |
Man, how do guys have so much time to do stuff these days? When I ran OTR, I had about enough time to fuel, eat, and sleep. :P
I have seen bicycles, and junk strapped to the back of bedbugger trailers. :P  |
Don't screw around with putting a good bike on the truck, get a DaHon (fair), a Bike Friday (Very Good) or Brompton (Very Good) folding bike.

Hey, has anyone thought up of a way to put a motorcyle on the back of the cab? :)
|
By drawing it on the back and then painting it......   Might have to scale it down for it to fit on the back of the sleeper.

Being a long time cyclist myself, I would vote for the Dahon(have read good reviews on them)...I would want full size wheels. Plus you can get road or mountain versions. http://www.dahon.com/us/folding-bicycles-us-models.htm[ |
Ok, I, grabed a snack at the mcdonalds in barrie ont, on sat night. there it was a volvo, with a peddle bike on the bull bars, on the front, a motor bike in a home made rack behind the cab, so, see if you realy want to you can do anthing.
