Well, one of my worst nightmares has come true - sort of...

I've always worried that my a/c would crap out on me when the temperature gets unbearable - it's 94f right now in Shreveport, LA where I'm shut down for the day. Well, on the trip from Abilene today I noticed that the fan in the cab (front of the truck) wasn't moving as much air as normal. I tried moving the air-mix (inside/outside air) lever to see if it might be the cabin air filter. When I set it to "inside", there was NO movement of the air.

I stopped at a rest area and blew out the air filter. Still no good. The only time I have any air coming out of the front vents is when I'm doing 60+ mph, then it's only a slight breeze. When I shut down I went through the fuse box on the truck - no blown fuses. I called the shop and they said it was probably the blower motor - they've had 4 go out on trucks in the past week or so (we have 75 trucks).

Great - not sure how soon I'll make it home. I deliver Friday morning in Atlanta, then home is at least a day and a half away from there.

At least the sleeper a/c is still ok - I have to drive with it on high just to somewhat cool down the truck.

My Mack at work had A/C didnt work and the company never wanted to fix it. You learn to live with out it. Last hot day was 96. As long as am not sitting it aint that bad. :)

That's what's really bad - I'm running really tight on my 70hr clock, so I'm dealing with having only 6 & 7 hour days of driving, other than that I'm sitting in a parking lot somewhere.

I'm keeping the curtain closed to keep the cool in the back when I'm parked, but just the heat buildup in the front of the truck is making the entire truck unbearable, even with the bunk fan on high.

Well i drive local so i dont have to worry about that but i could not image trying to sleep with it that hot.

Get a motel room. You will have air and a real shower and bed. :wink:

Have you turned the heater system off? Open the hood and close both of the pitcock valves for the heater system, that should help some.

It's not blowing hot air. When the truck is rolling full speed, cold air is coming out of the vents, but only from the natural airflow - the fan is dead in the front of the truck.

As far as a motel room, I had to fight to get a room last week when I had a idler pulley go out and the truck sat in a garage for almost 30hrs. The shop foreman said I couldn't sleep in the truck, so I had to go somewhere. It took a call to one of the owners to get it authorized.

Sometimes you can get a dead/dying blower motor started by thumping it with a hammer. You don't have to assault it, just a good thump.

They never quit when the weather is pretty :)

I once had a load heading to the deep south in the dead of summer. I had come out of Fresno and around Kingman, AZ, the AC in my truck died. Stopped at the T/A in Kingman and they got it working again. It died again just outside of Amarillo. I called my fleet manager and I said there was no way I was heading to the deep south with a non-functioning AC unit. He said to go ahead and come to Dallas since I was due for a replacement tractor anyways. I ended up going from a 64 mph KW T600 to a 68 mph T2000 so I didn't complain. :)
