Shower Tips
Okay, I know you thought this topic was going to give you some good tips on showering on the road. WRONG!
What I really want to know is if drivers customarily leave tips in the shower rooms for the janitors who clean them? I've only been OTR fore a couple months. My OTR trainer would leave a tip. I usually don't. However, the other day I used a shower that was so clean and neat, I left a tip. That got me thinking, Is it customary to leave a tip as ylou do with a waitress? |

I just hung my towel on the door or wherever they wanted us to put them, turn the key's in and wipe up my mess. |
People do it but not very often. Part of the problem is the person who gets the tip may not have been the one who cleaned your shower.

Rookie: Tried to send PM but system would not allow me.
How are things with you? I ran into a couple of your drivers in Washington at a rest stop. Every time I see a green truck I wonder if it is you. I am still with UPS FREIGHT moving pipe. What is your truck number? I am driving a 2002 White Freightliner that looks like it is a 1972 model. It has Overnight on the top of the wind deflector and UPS Freight on the doors. Truck number is 30506...blue numbers on the top rear end of the wind deflector... holler if you see me...
Good question... I never gave it a thought and the reply was helpful. I have showered when the staff was present (outside), some places have been better than others. Take care... drive safe /Steve |
I never have either. 6 years now. But I also leave my shower room neat, as I place the towels on the sink, and won't leave a big mess on the sink.
Most of my showers are not as clean as I would hope for either. Even some with new facilities...you can see dirt in the corners. I don't think they are disinfecting like they should be either. The towels they provide are usually worn out and have weird looking stains. I just use them as a floor mat. I thought about this for a moment as well. I'd always tip the maid of my motel. Anyway...I suppose it would be no different. These porters are the same ones having to clean the restrooms and hallways, launder the towels, as well as other chores around the T/S. I tip the waitress 20%. The showers are valued at $7-9 dollars now. I could afford to leave a dollar...that is for sure. If you will, and they will...count me in too. Lets see...in 6 years now...one shower a week...carry the 2...minus ... :? wait..wait...one shower...times number of times I hmmm wait...12 times ,,,no...lemme see...if I wash... |
Oh no, not this subject again!
I leave tips based upon performance. If someone goes out of the way to do a better job than is expected of them, I will tip them based upon the job they did. This includes waiters and waitresses. I'm in a line of work where I sometimes receive tips. I never expect them, and I always go out of my way to keep my customers happy. If someone else does the same, then they will get a tip from me. If they are just doing their job, then they can ask their employer for a tip, because I won't give one. I also think that the whole "they rely on your tips for income" argument is silly. They chose the job, and shouldn't expect a tip. |

It's not about expected. It's just fun to tip.   |
When it comes to showers, no I have never left a tip.
I have left tips in motel rooms for the cleaning staff if for some reason I had to leave a mess greater than what I consider normal, like what happens when traveling with small kids. At restaurants I leave tips based on service. I have never believed in the standard percentage bit. If the service was lousy I always leave a penny, which is more insulting than leaving no tip at all (as told to me by a few career waitresses). If the service is really great I have been known to leave as much as 40-50% of the tab. |
Drivers shower ??? :?

I didnt know that showers had tips. Do they help with the water pressure? I like the shower heads that put out about 100 psi of pressure.
