Instant Ticket

One of our guys at the driver's meeting told abut being awarded an instant ticket at a weigh station:

He was driving through the weigh station, knew he was OK, and was surprised when he got a red light. He had barely stopped on the scale when The Voice told him to bring his driver's license and report to the officer.
"Huh? Driver's License!", he thought. No problem, though. Just bring what you're asked - everyone knows that.
So he walks in, plops it down and the officer starts writing him a ticket!
"I'm giving you a ticket for no seat belt.", the cop says.
So our guy starts to say something and the officer hold up his hand in a manner that says "stop talking".
So the driver did.
Cop turns the ticket book around and points to where he wants it signed.
Driver signs.
Cop tears off a portion of the form, hands it to the driver and points toward the door.
Driver leaves.

So after he tells the story, The Boss says, "so do you wear a seat belt now?"
"Yeah, I do now", the driver says.
"So The Bear didn't need to say anything did he"?, says The Boss.
We thought it was pretty dang funny.

You know, on this point I find myself agreeing with those who choose to ride sans helmet and sans seat belt. I don't think they are very smart, but I do think the government's responsibility should end with education.

I've just never bought the "you are costing taxpayers money by injuring yourself" stuff.

Seat belt and helmet laws all interfere with Darwin's natural selection formula. In the above case Mackman has attempted to asssure us that no more Non-Helmet Wearers will be produced.
In other words he has expressed himself into oblivion and I have expressed myself into eternity.
Evidently The Government believes that ALL people should live to reproduce. I disagree, and wish they would just leave The Stoopidos alone.

RIGHT ON!!

I've just never bought the "you are costing taxpayers money by injuring yourself" stuff.

ME NEITHER!!

And that's a GOOD thing? Weeding out the independent spirits who stood up to King George and preserved our nation?? To be replaced by mollycoddled kids who have to wear a helmet to ride a bicycle?? Yech!!

In other words he has expressed himself into oblivion and I have expressed myself into eternity.

And an eternity of soft underbellied, overprotected, scared of their own shadow Americans is to be preferred over the hardened pioneers that built this country WITHOUT OSHA's assistance or mindless government regulation?

On THIS point, we agree! The weak and the scared are the meal for the tiger. Only the STRONG survive!

LIVE FREE OR DIE!!!!

Oh, not necessarily. But seeing himself as a "hardened pioneer" is probably how a non-helmet wearer views himself.
More telling, I think, is his "because I don't want to" comment. I see that as the attitude more consistant with a self indulgent child than as a valued team member who has properly thought out the risk/reward equation.

If wearing a helmet while I'm riding a motorcycle puts me in the "scared of my own shadow" category, then sign me up!

Mr. Ford95 04-20-2007 10:38 PM

I'm with yall against the seatbelts but I do use mine. Not because I'm made to by the police, but because I simply feel safer. I don't always use it in my personal vehicle but I sure use it in my truck just because it's cheaper to put it on than to have DOT ticket me.

Changing the subject slightly, why does the govt. arrest us for the Mary Jane and stuff?? It's not because we might hurt ourself with it, it's because they aren't getting a cut out of the profits. If they were getting a cut, it would be 100% legal.
