With the qualcomm I had no service next to buildings or walls, under the fuel island and under big trees. Basically anything that limits the QC from having 360 degree contact with the sattelite.

"360 degree contact with the satellite" Actually it's hemispheric coverage. As long as line of sight to the horizon and zenith (vertically) is clear, coverage is uninterupted. As a previous poster noted, a solid overhead obstruction will limit coverage as well as being in the "shadow" of tall buildings, tunnels, canyons, or trees. And don't forget really intense rainstorms. Satellite coverage, including home satellite TV, will be interupted due to the size of raindrops approaching the wavelength (size) of the RF signal. BOL

I have to agree,When I park my cab at home it is under a big tree out of the way of the front of the house. I do not get Q-Com service. I have dispatch call me on my cell when getting a load and then I move my truck
to get service.

we have an aether in our truck looks like a qulcom but unlike a qulcom it has a cell phone built into it. it will try to use the cell before it will try to use the sattelite..! it's fester, cheeper, and the DAM thing always works
blinding snowstorm in the middle of Bum F*&% No where WY. even in the shop with the doors closed.

Wind will also effect it as well
