Life without the pill!

Well most of you know, that I recieved an injury that cost me 2 surgery's. And they where fairly simple surgery's, that some if not most of the guy's on this board have been through. In the process of these sugery's, The doc, damaged 2 very important Nerve's.

So since 2004, I have been on Narcotics, like Loratab's, Vicodin, Norco, and just recently My pain doc, has put me on Dilaudid, with the treatments of pain blocks. The pain blocks in general are not very affective, and I am very sore for about 3-4 days afterwards. He suggested at one time for me to undrgo another surgery to install a electro pulser, on the 2 nerve's. But just recently He thinks I art to get a 2nd opinion from a diffrent surgeon. He said the he don't think I should be feeling the mesh, fold up. Which started about 5 months ago, after putting on my jeans, I felt a pop, and a whole lot of pain following.

The surgeon that did the 2 surgery's, examend me, and said it was scar tissue, from what she could tell. And if it was the mesh, she couldn't feel it. This has affected my work, my home life, and my fun life "no discription further needed?"

So Now I am looking for another surgeon to get the 2nd opinion, and I am thinking of getting of the meds. My problem is, after being off, how will I deal with the pain. And I am not so sure I want to go through the withdrawls. I did it befor, and they were not pleasent.

My friend's on here, I have a question.
For those who have had sugery for a Direct and a Indirect Hernia, did y'all have post op pain for 3 years or more, due to Illoinguinial and femoral nerve damage?

I really think you need to talk to 2 people. First is another surgeon and the second is an attorney.

My wife has had her third total knee replacement. 1st one was successful, 2nd went bad and the third has caused her pain for nearly a year. No one can figure out why. No one.

I know what you are going through, Slim. And I know you feel all this talk about attorneys is fine, but you just want to stop hurting. I hope you get there, Pal, I really do.

PS Don't forget to try chiropractors and acupuncture...I SWEAR by chiropractors!

Surgeries, not surgery's. You usually don't need an apostrophe before an s unless you're talking about something that belongs to someone.

BOL on your recovery. I'm going to have to check on some of those things to see if they will benefit my wife.

I have spoken to an attorney, can't do much there yet, because it is workcomp, and there are some sort of Law.
But to tell the truth like Aligator said, I just want to be back to normal. I have been told by all the doc's to accept that I will never be able to do the work I once did, and the pain may never leave.

Emerlin-- I guess you don't know, but I am the worst speller here

As for those pain meds, they work well, but you get to where your dependent on them, and then you grow a tolerance. So you need more and more. I started with 7.5 Loratabs, then went to 10.5's now on Dilaudid, wich is pretty much legalized herorin. Not to mention if you want off, and you suddenly stop, the withdrawls are horrible. But the doc can slowly reduce the amount, wean you off.

I have made the mistakes of porpusly to stop a few time's, because I get tired of needing more and more. Not to mention, I dont like relying on stuff like that. But let me tell ya, the withdrawls SUCK! and then the pain gets worse, and the next thing you know, you taking them again.

I am sorry to hear about your wife, I am no doctor, but from what I have read it could be nerves, or even a type of phantom pain. Isn't there some test they can do? like a nerve damage test?

have you had the most pain after

putting on my jeans, I felt a pop, and a whole lot of pain following.
?? if so why not insist on an MRI? that would be rule out if your mesh has indeed popped and or scar tissue.

have you tried seeing a neurologist that specializes in pain management? my husband sees one for his back. after getting nowhere with lidocain shots for 6 months, his neurologist added conjunctive acupuncture therapy and he's a lot better. and no i'm not saying something as simple as that will be your cure all, but it could be an aide to what you're already doing.

dealing with workman comp doctors can be a nightmare, so i feel for you slim.

I agree with Vavega's excellent advice.
Get an MRI...talk with other Doctors and Specialists.
Ask for acupuncture as well. My sister goes in for acupuncture treatments and also massage therapy. These both help her manage her pain.

Keep us updated...I'll be praying for you, and I hope you find relief. I have pain I deal with daily, but nothing like what you endure. Enough to where I can empathize.

I have askd this and the doc's say the MRI will not show anything! I personaly think I am getting the run around, but who knows?

As for my pain doc, I believe he is a neurologist!

But it is not so much as the docs that are a night mare, but dealing with the work comp insurance adjusters.

I asked if he could burn them, and the answer was nope, you don't want that Trust me!
