A few things
1) Excellent post, thank you
2) There is a very good reason why they are not talking about cutting the rates! It's no bulletin to anyone that truckers don't want Mexican competition driving rates down. No bulletin, no one who doesn't understand that and if they argue from that position they'll just get written off as 'tell us something we don't already know'.
You see, the DOT is accounting for the interests of other parties involved in this cross border trade who WANT lower freight rates and transportation costs like the automakers trying to produce cheaper cars to compete with the Japanese. They don't want to pay American drivers 50cpm plus benefits to transport the freight because, as an example, that might result in a higher priced F150 competing against, say a Toyota Tacoma.
So, OOIDA talks about 'safety' which means they aren't just concerned with keeping our rates up but they are concerned about the safety of all Americans on the highways. That argument is going to go farther.
3) Other words for those 'sons of bitches' is 'fathers', 'husbands', 'sons'
Having said all that, I can't see where it is fair to the American trucker. Do you want to drive into Mexico the way we drive into Canada?
