XM or SIRIUS????
JUST KIDDING!!!
Finally it looks like we will be able to put an end to this silly debate. Merger plans are going to be announced today! http://www.nypost.com/seven/02192007...ter_lauria.htm |
I forgot to mention the downside of this. Without the competition with each other, the price will go up big time.

It is entirely possible that a single company will offer two different services, and simply combine resources and technology. |
I agree that the story is just speculation. But I know for a fact that XM and Sirius are in talks for a merger. Whether or not the feds approve this merger is something else.
And I disagree with you about merging programming. Of course they would merge programming. They are trying to combine two failing companies and make a profitable one. Merging without combining programming and not charging more for the service, would just create 1 company with two divisions that are both failing. |
I have heard that's a load of bull. The FCC had them agree to some terms that say one is not allowed to buyout the other or merge with one another.
I won't believe a thing that comes out of the NY Post, they like to run with stories that have nothing to go on for truth. If they were a TV show, they would be getting tons of ratings by the stories they throw out. |
Watch the news, watch the stock and you can tell me I was right at another date.
XM stock is up 7.7% today. Good thing I bought last Friday. Hmmmm, I wonder why i would have bought stock in a failing company? |

Generally, the stock of the company being taken over will rise, while the stock of the company doing the takeover will be flat, or fall. Both companies saw gains on this "news", but XM stock increased by a higher percentage than Sirius, which leads me to believe, if the story is true, that XM will be bought out by Sirius. |
Sheep, I heard this yesterday and they said that stock was up 7.7% for XM on news of a merger but then the FCC said it would never happen and the stock was already dropping to the negative side. Guess we will have to wait and see but I will still never believe what comes out of the Post. Yahoo is apparently not reporting on this or someone forgot to tell them.

Here is what I found Sheep:
A clause in the Federal Communications Commission ruling granting licenses to the satellite radio operators says that one company cannot own the other one, but the FCC would have the power to change the rule if it chose to. Any deal would also have to pass an antitrust review at the Department of Justice. |
The merger announcement is now on Xms website.
Also, most wallstreet analysts I have read today say they see the FCC giving this approval. I realize that when dealing with the gov, you never know what will happen. Personally, I think it will end up going through. And personally, I hope it does...Im already paying for both. Im happy to pay a little more for both of them combined. Also like I said, they will be combining programing under a new company name. |
