Marines

In the Walmart parking lot today there were 5 bus loads of Marines and every one of them had been to Iraq and that got me thinking.

Marines are some of the most respectful people on this earth maybe they cuss and get loud but they lay down there lives for us and I think they deserve to be allowed to do those kinds of things even if it coses us a little uncomfort because we would be a whole lot more uncomfortable with out them.

Well mabey not, but most of the ones I have been around do. Mabey it's just a NC thing.

bulldog2036 01-04-2007 08:57 AM

Very true on both notes....respectability comes from within and not about who or what you are. I do not think I want my children to think that just because I have the title of "Marine" that it gives me carte blanche to make an ass out of myself....now on that note I have been around plenty of truckers that have filthy mouth as well.

I did 20 years in the Air Force and have the utmost respect for all of our military branches

Never was in the military, they took one look at me and decided that it was probably best to not even get started!!...... but I have spent the better part of 30 yrs. in a part of Texas which has a very heavy military presence. (Mostly Air Force & Army)

I've seen groups of soldiers get a bit boisterous on festive occasions, but as a group, they were never obnoxious, nor did they behave in a manner that would be construed as disrespectful. (oh, I know that you'll always have a few asshole exceptions here or there, but I refuse to judge all of them based upon the foolish actions of a disrespectful few!!)

Don't know about The Marines, but as for The Air Force and The Army, based upon my observations, Honor and Dignity are revered whether they are on base or not, in uniform or in civilian clothing!!

The Marines I have seen around the world have the cleanest bodies, the filthiest minds, the highest morale, and the lowest morals of any group of animals I have ever seen. Thank God for the United States Marine Corps. (Eleanor Roosevelt)

If you wanna give them comfort, start writing letters to officials to get them home. Scream, cry, call you local talk radio, picket, or whatever you can muster.

All services do that, however, due to the respect we have for our services, country, self and others, most choose to act respectfully when around the civilian population.

Our military does the job no one wants to do, but everyone wants done.

Moment of Silence for our lost brothers and sisters.

Those Marines dont want to come home until they have accoumplished their mission.........No matter what it takes

01-15-2007 12:43 PM

I have 2 brothers who were at one time both in the service at the same time one in the Corps and the other in the Air Force. The one in the Marines stayed at the one in the Air Force's base and as a joke the base commader put them up in a hanger the Marines thought they were staying at the Holiday Inn. Of course my ex-Marine brother was force RECON so he was the craziest of the bunch.

"What it will TAKE" is for the Commander in Chief (sic) to make up his mind just WHAT that mission IS!! We'd ALL like to see them accomplish their mission and come home victorious. We just don't have any idea anymore just What the mission is from day to day!

Mack2 01-15-2007 01:27 PM

Please don't turn this into a whether we should be there or not thread if you want one of those start one of your own because this thread is to thank the Marines for what they do.

Being in the Marines, or any other branch for that matter, doesn't give any of them the priviledge to act unprofessionally. Acting like a fool in the publics eye is the easiest way to discredit their respective branch. People will always talk about the negative and never mention the sacrifices. Thus they are under the microscope and really need to maintain when in public. It's definitely disappointing to see it when it happens.

I BELIEVE the only "offense" committed was "cussing." Which is a protected form of Free Speech. And WHO protects that right????

I get "disappointed" in our whole society when I see the "laissez-faire" attitude of PARENTS who let their little curtain hangers act out with NO restraint in public. But, I don't blame ALL parents for the actions of the many. But, neither do I think they've earned the RIGHT, just because they got pregnant!

I kinda see your point, Jim. And we ALL (truckers included) live under the same cosmic rules concerning how OTHERS will "think and talk," but, I feel that the LEAST I can do, is curb my sensibilities a bit in the presence of a Purple Heart - or the daily risk of earning one.

Tribute to the Marines

* United States Marine Corps Birthday: 10 NOVEMBER 1775 *

1) Best haircut. Hands down. You can't have a bad hair day with a high and tight. And you spend less on shampoo.

2) Dress blues. They're the coolest uniforms in any military worldwide.

3) Bloused trousers. Another distinctive Marine look that sets the proudest service members apart.

4) The rest of the Marine sea bag. From the Alphas to the camouflage utilities, uniforms just look better on a Marine than any other service member.

5) Marines don't wear dungarees.

6) Most respect I. When the Marines pulled out of Haiti and Somalia, the media reported the U.S. military was pulling out -- as if tens of thousands of Army troops weren't still in the country. Now that's respect.

7) Most respect II. When the Corps came back to Haiti after 60 years, an old man on the Cap-Haitien beach said ``Welcome back!''

8) Toughest mascot. The Marine Corps' is a bulldog. The Navy's: a goat.

9) Esprit de Corps. Even if you can't spell it or pronounce it, the Marine Corps has it in spades. One example: When sailors get tattoos, they do it to express their individuality, and their choices range from Betty Boop and Mickey Mouse to raging sea serpents. When Marines get tattoos, they do it to express their solidarity, and choose bull dogs, ``death before dishonor,'' and ``USMC.''

10) Best war monument: Iwo Jima

11) The Marines invade, then go home. The Army has to do the occupying.

12) The silent drill team. Just watching them ply their trade makes you want to wear dress blues.

13) Status. Sailors live and work on ships. Marines go for cruises -- then hit the shore.

14) Best fast attack vehicles: LAVs.

15) Best fighting knife: Ka-Bar.

16) Best duty assignments: Okinawa, Kaneohe Bay, Camp Pendleton, Diego Garcia, Moscow, North Carolina. Plus any ship at sea.

17) Worst duty assignments: Okinawa, Kaneohe Bay, Camp Pendleton, Diego Garcia, Moscow, North Carolina. Plus any ship at sea.

18) Most exotic duty assignments: Kuala Lumpur, The White House.

19) Best phone number. Call 1-800-MARINES and you've got the Corps. And if you're a civilian with the character to be a Marine, a recruiter there will be happy to sign you up.

20) Toughest DI's. (Drill Instructors). They're so tough that when the Navy wants to train its officers, who do they call? 1-800-MARINES.

21) Toughest boot camp. When San Diego was still training Navy recruits, legend has it that recruits occasionally would jump the fence and accidentally land in Marine boot camp. The Marines would keep them a couple of days, and when the recruits were sent back, they were ready to be sailors!

22) Best motivational cries: Ooh-rah! - Attack! - Kill!

23) Best emblem: Eagle, Globe and Anchor. (Air, Land and Sea)

24) Best campaign covers: The Smokey Bear hat.

25) Separate heads for enlisted and officers. Everywhere else, officers and enlisted use the same pot.

26) The only official, congressionally sanctioned hymn for any of the services: ``The Marines' Hymn.''

Here is something that my Master Sargent in the Air Force brother told me The Navy softens the beach up the Marines hit and take the beach the Army comes in and expnads out the beachead the Air Force comes in at the end and puts in the Officers Club.

phantom 01-20-2007 03:27 PM

There Ya GO........

This isn't Hollywood, & it's not 1941, what you really mean, is............
The Air Force long range bombs the desired target, THEN the Navy, leaves
Diego Garcia, then when they FINALLY get there, they shoot their big guns, The ARMY Special-ops lands, scopes it out, with maybe some RANGERS, & SEALS, THEN.......if it's only amphibious, the Marines land,
THEN get all the media attention, & credit, for the whole thing.......
cool uniforms though....
