which sirius receiver?
 

I have a XACT something or another I bought at walmart. My gf wants sirius now so I thought about getting her one for christmas. shes like me, she just listens to it. No sports or anything really just normal radio. I have that pause rewind replay shit, but I don't know how to use it or even care to. anyway what receiver do you recommend?

should I just get a $79 one like mine from wal mart or is that one shitty?

My wife got the little Starmate one and it is just fine for her. Sucks trying to install it in a Pontiac Sunfire though. Ended up having to rig up a piece of wood cut into the shape of a triangle velcro that down to the dash, then velcro the receiver to the wood. Pontiac seems to not believe in putting a flat piece of plastic on the dash that is wider than 1 inch.

I'm looking to get the $350 model when the price comes down on it. The one that is just like carrying a walkman on you since it has a built in antenna and you can then plug in headphones for it. I spend as much time in my truck as I do out of it so I need something that is completely portable.

i just bought the stiletto sl100 online at abt electronics out of chicago. the great thing for me in additon to the sale price was no sales tax (saving@$24) and no shipping (saving @$5). so i thought i got a pretty good deal. i just got it yesterday, so i can't tell you how it works, but i'm happy with their service. :D

If you are talking surris radio I use the surrisone reciever. You can get at most truckstops for around $50. It looks alot like a radar detector and has two ways to put it in your car. Let me tell you DOT gets a hard-on when I roll into the scales, but it works great and it is easy to move it from one car to another.

I got the Sirius one reciever too... They are going for $19.99 at most truck stops now, while supplies last( I think they are discontinued model). And yes, they look exactly like a radar detector, last trip out I got a level 2 from a Michigan DOT and had to take it off the window and show him the damn thing to prove it wasn't what he thought it was.

I have the Replay Starmate and its great, the window suction cup mount is great and the display shows everything on one screen unlike the little radar detector one which they are discontinuing. I got mine at walmart and would highly recommend. The rewind feature is simple, you just push the play button and it pauses push it again and it starts playing again, great for when you have a phone call or have to get out for a minute.

How do these radios hook up to the truck radio and speakers?

I've seen some advertised having a car adapter kit. Is that one of those funny cassette looking things? If so, what do you do if your truck has a CD player instead of a cassette deck? Do they hard wire to a power source? Or, do you have to plug it into the lighter fixture?

I'm interested in the technology. But, don't want a bunch of loose wires hanging all over the cab.

Get the sirius one go to sirius web site. and order it. 29.99 Its small easy to operate and inexpensive. I love it.

Activate Sirius receiver (either on-line or via phone, VERY quick, simple and easy). Turn on Sirius unit (after connecting antenna magnet and or mirror mount-2 minutes tops), select menu, pick an un-used FM channel (on Sirius unit), turn on TRUCK FM radio, select SAME FM frequency (save to channels) and that's it. Takes all of about 7 minutes. All you need is the car kit, that comes with your radio and the Sirius ESN serial number on the box or the radio itself. Get a mirror mount antenna if you are in a commercial truck. Around $55-60 at T/A's or through Sirius.com. Never ever drops the signal. These are extremely easy to install and activate.

the car kits come with a lighter plug but you can cut the end off and hook it to your c.b posts, you can also get a c/d adaptor, it uses the same one that you use on any portable player.
