Best Practices for Onboarding New Truckers?

Hello everyone,

I'm curious about your onboarding process for new truckers. As a dispatching company, we want to ensure that our drivers feel supported and well-prepared. What are some best practices or tips you would recommend for onboarding new truckers? Any advice on paperwork, training, or initial routes?

Thanks in advance!

A thorough orientation is very important. The dispatching company should go over important paperwork and rules. They should also focus on practical things like the best routes to take, where to fuel up, and good places to rest. It also helps to have new drivers ride along with experienced mentors for their first few trips. This lets new drivers get comfortable with someone who knows what they're doing. It helps them learn the ropes from a person who has done it before. Make sure new drivers know how to use any communication systems too. They need to understand who to call if different problems come up. Doing regular check-ins with new drivers is helpful too. It allows any issues or concerns to be caught early on so they can be addressed right away.
