British heavy haul in action
 

I saw a low loader going into the building site opposite the house today and thought I would go along to watch, knowing that the guy would have a little difficulty with the reverse out because of the gate on his near side.
I spoke to the driver for half an hour or so and we chatted about various heavy haul companies we had worked for and the merits or otherwise of his Nooteboom trailer.
Anyway, he said it was ok to video him getting out of the place and we both laughed as we knew there was no way he could make it first hit.
I thought he did quite well in getting out with only one shunt.

Cool video Wot, thanks for sharing that with us. The driver did an excellent job, I haven't seen a quad set of axles, we have mostly tri/w "boosters" tandem. We also have "jeeps" single and tandem that pin to your 5th wheel, and your trailer pins to the jeep ( no they don't back up. I remember backing a single jeep into the shop one day, the thing is soo short, you can't Evan see it in your mirror, it's a Peterbilt thing ...Nothing wrong with the mirrors, people just tend to be more comfy sitting low... And the steering trailer axles... nope not around here, we have them but your Buddy steers them with a remote. What kind of gizmo controls the trailer steer ? P.S. That was nice of you to cut the part out when the driver crunched the white car :lol:

He never actually hit it mate, though he did get close. I thought he did quite well considering the only guy watching him that was able to help sufficiently and give proper direction was too engrossed in his new movie making career :shock: :lol:
The trailer was on auto steer, the driver was an ace with excavators so he side tracked it off the bed.
Had it been me, I would have had to park perfectly in line(to save the inconvenience of having to reset steering from the neck) knock the neck out, then drive the thing off the novices way....I,ll drive any truck, any where but I,m still not too clever with plant :oops: :lol:

That site wasn,t too bad, just a little awkward to get out. I,ll see if I can find some old photos of heavy haul I,ve driven in real tight situations :wink:

Man....I could've used one of those trailers in some of the tight spots I've delivered in.

I've side-loaded and off-loaded a few times....hate doing it that way, puts too much stress on the sides.......but sometimes, there's no other alternative.

I take it that you lowered the suspension and dropped the neck so that the trailer was on the ground though?

I've pulled a quad-axle drop-deck here, but the only steering was in front. Steering on the trailer would really be nice. Only time we get that, that I know of, is when you're pulling one of the longer bridge beams. Then, the back is set on a steerable dolly. BOY!!! Would that make it nice getting in and out of parking spaces at a PILOT......

Honestly mate, you really do need rear steering trailers in the U.K; A lot of our roads are very narrow and difficult to get around with a general haulage 45ft trailer.
I,m surprised more American companies don,t use them though.
I always imagined American companies would have bang up to date tackle.
