Lest we forget

A day of gratitude and remembrance dawns upon us soon
On the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month
The guns fell silent in Northern France, signifying the end of an almighty struggle in which the cream of the Worlds youth were slaughtered
Taken from us, but not forgotten
In the 88 years that have since passed, we have found ourselves in conflict again and again in defence of what we hold to be of value and the truth
At the time of writing, courageous young men and women of our democratic nations are actively involved throughout the world in the fight against terror
We sleep soundly in our beds because of their efforts; Which may cost them dearly
Can we show our Gratitude?

I propose that No one post on these forums at the 11th hour,11th day, 11th month.
Thank You

Sorry, I didn,t realise but Americans have your very own "Veterans Day".
11TH November is our "Remembrance Day" when we honour our fallen.
We chose that day and time as it,s when the armistice came into effect to end The Great War.
I salute your fallen heroes too
Kev

Veteran's Day, conveniently one day after the Marine Corps Birthday, a day celebrated by all Marines, sometimes to excess. :D

If you have to question the "excess" of the Marine Corps birthday...you wouldn't understand...bd.

As a former marine, this site might interest you. http://www.royalmarinesregimental.co.uk/index.shtml

You didn't REALIZE??? Still thinking of us as the "Colonies" eh?

That's Okay, Wot... We honor YOUR fallen heroes, TOO! (And those of your red-headed Aussie stepchildren, too!) :D

Just messin' with ya! Don't want to start an argument on THIS kind of thread!

We should ALL be proud of ALL those who've died in service to Freedom!

I hate to admit it, but I don't know what day is celebrated in many OTHER countries who have fought beside US (that's you AND us) like some in Africa, for instance.

I read it that way, too. And I am NOT a Marine! As far as I'm concerned, they can have a long weekend to party! Here's TO ya, Bulldog! 8)

terrylamar 11-06-2006 10:21 AM

Well, speaking as a former Marine, I do not question our excesses. I think Veteran's Day is a well placed holiday. Semper Fi.

I,ve already shown my ignorance of remembrance days in other nations

The last line of your post said "sometimes to excess". Now if you meant that to say that Marines are so gung-ho about almost everthing than I get the gist of your post...right back 'atcha Marine...........Hey Hobo, how you doing?.........SEMPER Motherf@#$%^&% FI!!!!!!!!

This is the problem with message boards. People are often, if not usually, misunderstood!

Terrylamar, who has never identified himself as a "former" Jarhead, said:

Veteran's Day, conveniently one day after the Marine Corps Birthday, a day celebrated by all Marines, sometimes to excess.
And DID follow it with a laughing smiley!

The word that, I suspect, hit Bulldog wrong was "conveniently." That word sounded like an insult, even though it was meant as a term of relief for someone who wanted to party hearty and have a day off to recover! But, would NOT be well accepted by a Marine, if offered by one of us lowly "flyboys!"

It appears NOW, that BOTH are Jarheads! [There's NO such thing as a "former" Jarhead.... once a Marine, always a Marine!]

So... you two Jarheads must get along and have a BIG party on your birthday, and take the next day OFF!

Which is why it is "convenient" that the birthday is followed by a government holiday!

Now... Y'all better drink that beer, and chase that girl! Or get the heck out of the way and let one of us "Bus drivers" show you how it's DONE!

Marines aren't the smartest  (or they'd be flyboys!  ) BUT... they are the BRAVEST and the BADDEST! And they're FIRST IN, and LAST OUT!

And, in MY book, that earns 'em an extra day off to celebrate! So... Semper FI..... ya crazy boneheads!!!

And "here's" to your brothers who ain't here to drink the beer!

Hobo [A.F. Recon]

bulldog2036 11-07-2006 02:12 AM

Hey Hobo,

The only the that makes me a "former" Jarhead is that I no longer wear the uniform and you are so right that I will always be a Marine...and trust me I earned it. AF Recon huh? I was with Force Recon......bd
