Default O/Os and Dispatchers

I'm trying to find out how best to present information about the dispatching service our company offers.

I've talked to a few O/Os who have been very interested in it but when it comes down to getting the paperwork done and getting it back to me there seems to be a problem.

I don't know how I can make it any easier. Unfortunately, the paperwork has to be done. its to make sure everything's done legally and correctly.

I'm really excited about this new dispatch division at our company because they're doing something that has never been done before. They are using a factoring company to bill the broker, who unlike the shipper, has a bond to secure payment. This makes getting paid so much easier.

My husband is an OTR owner op with UPS Freight and he is ready to go get a van and let me get him some good loads so he can be home more :-)

Please someone give me some insight into what owner operators want from a dispatcher and how I can help show them what I can do for them in order to get them signed up so that I can help keep them moving and making money.

Thank you :-) Jenna

Some people are lazy with paperwork....some people don't even get their paperwork done in time to get paid. They also might be busy, or just looking and not serious. You have to keep bugging them until they say stop.

make it worth our while. Honestly...

I would never even consider using a dispatch service. I already have enough people in my pocket and for how easy it is to find decent paying loads and to do my paperwork, what good is it to add another layer to it.

as an example.

I get a load. It pays $2.00 per mile. Not super, not terrible, but sustainable. I pay factor or quickpay and it takes it down to $1.90 per mile. If you get another 15% off that for doing YOUR job, it takes it down another $0.30 so now I am down to $1.60 per mile. You had best be able to show that I am going to at LEAST get back to my $2.00 per mile if I am to even consider your services. And since I am paying you to find the cherry loads, I am thinking I want to see at least a $0.40 per mile (20%) increase or better in my rates taking that up to $2.40 per mile minimum. Your cut of 15% is going to push that rate up to $2.82 and with the factoring at 5%, that's about $2.98 per mile you need to show me is coming in at the MINIMUM.

That's how I would start to look at it.

As an aside, going on a year now with my own authority. I have not needed nor do I care to factor. I can get the same results down for bankroll with quickpays if/when I decide to take them. Some brokers also are willing to establish you with "preferred carrier" status and you can get paid in as quick as 5-10 days without quickpay or factoring discounts.

Thank you for that information. I'm considering independent dispatching for o/o. But 15%? Wow!! That's just ridiculous and sounds a bit greedy for the dispatcher, but that's just my opinion. No more than 10% should be charged. Geeze, y'all have to make a living too!! OK, rant over. Thanks again for your insight mndriver.
