Default Say goodbye to the split speed limit in Illinois!

(for the most part)

Truck speed limit increases on major highways -- chicagotribune.com

CHICAGO - Gov. Pat Quinn has signed a new law increasing the speed limit for large trucks on major highways in Illinois outside the six-county Chicago area to 65 mph.

Under the bill signed into law Friday, the increase applies to trucks carrying a gross weight of 8,001 pounds or more on interstates and other highways with at least four lanes and dividing medians. Within Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry and Will counties, however, the speed limit for such trucks will be 55 mph.

The speed limit for trucks carrying a gross weight of 8,000 pounds or less will also be 65 mph, which also applies on the Illinois State Tollway system outside urban areas.

------

The legislation is HB3956.

I got a speeding ticket in IL for going 58 mph about 8 years ago, thanks to those split speed limits. Do you think it's too late to fight it?

Better than CA and 75 for cars and 55 for trucks.
Apparently, the Bay Area holds the whip to the rest of the state.

The very first ticket I ever got in a commercial vehicle was on I-55, a little south of Boomington... 60 mph. Second one was on I-57 near Mt Vernon. 59 mph. Since then, I've been staying west of the Mississippi from MN down to AR and cross into TN. I've tended to avoid IL like the PLAGUE. But, I would suggest that you do not go 66 mph in IL or you'll get an award for your driving. At least not for a couple of years. In most states, when a speed limit is changed or a new road is opened up, they tend to inforce it more strictly.
