My sister had 2 Rotties that grew up with my nephews. They were absolutely the best dogs I have ever known. Extremely playful, great around kids, yet super protective of the home and the kids. Brutus and Shelby. Shelby was the runt of the litter.
Those dogs learned as pups to jump on the trampoline while 4-5 kids were on it with them. They learned to wrestle with adults and kids in a playful manner.
Not once did either of them bite an adult that they knew, nor did they ever bite any kid....yet they were infamous for taking down thieves as a duo. They would lay in their doghouse, and wait until the bad guy was half way between the house and the fence...then both would team him to the ground. At my sisters house they caught and held 4 scumbags while the boys were at school and sis and her hubby were at work. 2 of the bad guys were picked up early, because Anne the lady next door called the sheriffs department about them....the others were kept on the ground all day by them two mutts.
Funny thing...if they had simply said "NO!!" "GO HOME!!"in a firm voice, then gotten on their feet and walked back to the fence, they could have left freely. The dogs would have sat there and watched them. Instead they tussled with the dogs, and in an effort to not be torn up with dog bites, they laid still on the ground with the dogs on them.
Brutus and Shelby..:bow::bow:..dang I miss those dogs. They died 4 days apart in 2004. They were 18 years old in our years.
