Today was the day, I passed the driving test and got my CDL. I go to orientation next Wednesday and should be out on the road with the trainer Friday afternoon/evening. Looks like turkey day will be spent on the road.
Congratulations! (I think.) Don't know anything about YOUR company, but just something to think about:
Your trainer should have SOME amount of seniority. Even while in training, many trips are made in and around the home base. What I'm saying is.... HE might manage to get "routed by the house" that weekend. I assume he lives close enough by you for that to help YOU, too?
Anyway, it COULD happen. Best of LUCK, and be safe!
Thanks Golfhobo!
I am not sure about any routing as of right now and it is a possibility that I will be home I just don't want to get excited about it.
I went with System Transport out of Spokane, WA flatbedding here I come.
I didn't mean to get you excited over it either, just offered the possibility.
I know next to nothing about flatbedding, but here's another "speculation" that perhaps your trainer, or someone else here, could clarify.
I THINK much of flatbedding deals with building sites or manufacturing plants. MANY (not all) of these might close down Thurs and/or Friday of Thanksgiving. Or, at least, their shipping/receiving departments might. If they're not there.... you might not have to be either.
I think there's a subforum for flatbedding here (never checked,) and I'm sure some of the experienced drivers there might be able to relate their experiences of what happens over this or other holidays.
Of course, you could always ask your dispatcher what to expect, first chance you get.
I will be checking so I know what to expect. Once I show up at orientation they will let me know who my trainer is, when to expect them and what the first run will be like.
