{"id":4546,"date":"2017-12-26T12:33:32","date_gmt":"2017-12-26T19:33:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.classadrivers.com\/become-a-truck-driver\/?p=4546"},"modified":"2018-01-12T11:59:36","modified_gmt":"2018-01-12T18:59:36","slug":"dac-report-get-one","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.classadrivers.com\/become-a-truck-driver\/dac-report-get-one\/","title":{"rendered":"What is a DAC Report and How Do I Get One?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\"><strong>What is a DAC report?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>A DAC (Drive A Check) report is a report card for CDL drivers. \u00a0DAC reports are managed by HireRight, a private worldwide company that began in 1981 as DAC services.\u00a0 Currently, more than 2,500 trucking companies use HireRight\u2019s services in the process of hiring commercial drivers.\u00a0 Any company can request a DAC report for a fee, which will place a CDL driver in HireRight\u2019s database.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\"><strong>Why was DAC started?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>DAC was created in response to FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulation Part 391 which requires employers to obtain a commercial driver\u2019s safety and performance history as part of the hiring process.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\"><strong>What type of information is on a DAC report?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>A DAC report will list motor vehicle records for every state in which a CDL driver has ever held a license.\u00a0 The records are derived from several government sources, such as the CDLIS (Commercial Driver\u2019s License Information System), a nationwide database maintained by state licensing agencies.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The CDLIS will list license class and type, endorsements, restrictions, driving violations, suspensions and DUIs if any.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Another source is the driver\u2019s pre-employment screening program (PSP) record available from the FMCSA.\u00a0 The PSP includes five years of accident history, and three years of roadside inspection data from the FMCSA Motor Carrier Management Information System (MCMIS) database.<\/p>\n<p>You can see a sample PSP report below.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4548\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4548\" style=\"width: 670px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4548 size-mh-magazine-content\" title=\"Pre-Screening Employment Program report - Sample\" src=\"https:\/\/www.classadrivers.com\/become-a-truck-driver\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/PSP-670x381.png\" alt=\"Sample PSP report for truck drivers\" width=\"670\" height=\"381\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4548\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sample PSP report for truck drivers<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>In addition, a DAC report can include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>3 Year Employment History if a driver drove a commercial vehicle not subject to FMCSA regulations<\/li>\n<li>10 Year Employment History if the driver drove a commercial vehicle subject to FMCSA regulations<\/li>\n<li>3 Year Employment and Drug\/Alcohol Violation History<\/li>\n<li>County Criminal, Felony, and Misdemeanor Records for each county lived in<\/li>\n<li>DOT Pre-Employment Drug Testing<\/li>\n<li>DOT Alcohol Testing<\/li>\n<li>DOT Physical Exam<\/li>\n<li>S. Employment Eligibility Verification I-9 Status<\/li>\n<li>Other information: Types of equipment operated, loads hauled, reasons for leaving former employers, rehire eligibility, and truck driving school performance records.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To obtain a copy of your Pre-Employment Screening Program (PSP) record for a fee of $10, visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.psp.fmcsa.dot.gov\/psp\/Default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HERE<\/a>.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\"><strong>How does this information affect the driver?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>An employer will use the info on your DAC report to decide if you driver meets their hiring requirements.\u00a0 Each company may have different sets of requirements.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some examples of what \u00a0trucking companies look for on your DAC report:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>How much driving experience.<\/li>\n<li>What equipment the driver has operated (doubles, tankers, or forklifts)<\/li>\n<li>How many times the driver has switched companies<\/li>\n<li>Any record of abandoned company vehicles<\/li>\n<li>Does the driver have experience hauling hazardous materials?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A drivers DAC report could have information reported that could be an employment game changer.
