I've been out of driving for a while now but am starting to get interested again after seeing a few companies offering great schedules for drivers that only want to run part-time (7-on 7-off, or 2wks on 1wk off, etc). Do you guys think more companies should start offering those kind of options? [/list]

As they have more trouble filling seats, they will have to offer this and other incentives. Half-time works for a LOT of life situations, and why should the company care, since their truck is still being utilized during YOUR downtime, by the OTHER/alternate driver. No skin off their nose, and they get 2 rested, satisfied drivers per rig, instead of 1 driver who's stressed and cranky about never getting home. Slip-seating I guess they call it...?

It's a win-win, makes me want to get into trucking, as I can still run a part-time biz on the side, but not get burned out with it or trucking. With today's cellphone and wireless internet options (and the company-paid Qualcomm for e-mail), its easy to stay on top of the homefront while OTR.

Obviously there could be pitfalls, e.g. the driver you share with is an inconsiderate a-hole, smoker, long-hair dog owner, pot-smoker who pees the mattress and leaves MJ seeds around for smokey to find, etc.

Also would be important to know how scheduled maintenance is done to spread the downtime "penalty".
