| I didn't know about the medical emergency. Anyways, sounds like you have the right idea brother. Dust yourself off, get up, and get on it again. From what I have read, I would stay away from Werner or SNI. I think you will find more of the same with them. You got your CDL, so you are a leg up on a lot of folks. Best of luck |

iowarider- I'd suspect you'll have to work at getting back in... but if I were you, one of the places I'd call is Davis Transport. Small company out of Missoula, doesn't pay all that great, but from my own dealings with them, I get the strong impression they wouldn't be bad to work for, and you might even get them to pay off your CRST loan if you can hang with them for 18 months. I have not worked for them, but get the impression that wages probably affects their retention quite a bit, and recruiting, I think, knows this (even if they can't necessarily do anything about it). Otherwise, they sound decent enough to work for, from everything I've read and heard.
Then again, you may very well find something better. Don't be shy about checking out the smaller companies, though. I've got a prehire with a small local that told me they wouldn't take me last year, without experience. (I do have a friend working there, though.) |

| I would try a few companies out of Utah, Montana Brand being one, or Merganthaler's in Salt lake, they're crying for drivers. The biggy is lots of snow, ice and mountain driving. If you can't drive in these conditions, forget it. |

| iowarider, from looking at your posts, i would guess you have a liking or desire of some sort to do work in the writing world. You seem very good (well at least when compared to me) at processing your thoughts and experiences into the written word. Maybe you need to check into a career that deals with writing or some type of communcation type thingy. |

| Stinkyfinger, not so much a desire as training. I was a teacher for 20 years. That's part of why I am going into trucking. My last position as a shop instructor was eliminated, with my age and years experience, schools would have to bring me in at the top of their pay scale. They literally can hire two fresh from college for the price of me. Guess which they go for. So, customer service for sears and what not for the last year and now back to what I want to do. |

| iowarider that's kinda sad in my opinion. I don't mean to diss ya in any way. But for somebody to have the "smarts, talent, education, etc to do you what you started out to do and to drop down to driving a truck is just hard to take. If you have that kind of educational background, please do not waste it on trucking. I've been driving almost 19 years and wish to god I could have done sometning I REALLY loved,or had a passion for. I just never had the brains, education or "kick my ass in the right direction" signs from my parents on what to do. Bottom line again, Think and double think about your wife and kids and leaving them. That is THE most important thing!! |

Thanks for the good thoughts. As for wife, did I mention she had divorce papers served on me in my office, on the day of what would have been our 25th wedding anniversary? Kids are grown and on their own for the most part. Youngest is a junior in high school and I only get to see him once or twice a month now. Sometimes life sucks, than other times it sucks worse.
But hey thanks for the thought. |

| probably last post to this thread. Just a transitional note. I hired on with Transport America. After a false start, I will meet at North Liberty Iowa terminal and go with a group to Scotsburg Indiana for training. Will be with a trainer for couple weeks. That's OK with me, I know I need some update of skills. See Ya on the road. |
