if there is I would love to know the name of the program. That would be a very nice tool to have!
Microsoft Streets and Trips, Delorme's version, PC Miler, and others will all generate the routes and give nominal transit times...and the travel speed can be adjusted to match conditions. I think PC Miler is more sensitive as it seems to know the legal truck speeds in all the states....not sure, but it appears to.
I have PC Miler and MS S&T....and the transit times using "average speeds" that are realistic generate pretty realistic transit times.... 8)
So far as cheating on logs.... No, I don't. There are too many timestamps on trucks...that can be cross checked easily enough. The DOT can access them, the Federal Auditors can access them, and if you really screw up and have an accident that results in litigation...you can damn well bet that the lawyer filing the suit is going to turn 6 months of your logs inside out and upside down...looking for anything that even appears to be hinky. If they find it....you're toast, financially and quite possibly criminally.
I'll say this point blank: If you cannot make an income sufficient for your needs and then some by running 100% legal, then you are working for the wrong carrier, or you couldn't pour piss out of a boot if the directions were printed on the bottom sole. |

| Someone told me once as long as the lines are straight and the writing's neat you'll pass log inspection every time. Followed that rule and never got caught once. I do know someone who got nailed an a scale when they checked his logs against his prepass times. Two log books, now that's really old school! I love loose leaf logs  |

| i use loose leaf logs and sometimes i may fudge depending on the circumstance. for instance if i get stuck in traffic because of an accident and it takes me 2 or 3 hours to get through a place that would normally take 20 minutes... i'll only log it as 20 minutes at the end of the day to save hours.. as long as i didn't pass any scales with pre pass and what not. but in the long run it's not good to fudge em often because you can really be setting yourself up for bad news in the future... for all the reasons skywalker said and then some. |

well i still shave time off of my 70 loading and unloading, but when i got level one inspected in Maryland several months back and the inspector ran it on his little computer and told me i couldn't be at his weigh station for another 45 mins due to weather and traffic and tolls.
ive decided that messing with your 11/14 isn't worth it, he was nice enough to simply tell me and i quote "slow that log down little bit"
if he had wanted to he could have wrote me a huge fine and put me out of service, so its not worth it to me to mess with my logs too much
also for other company drivers the inspector told me that he had the right to jack in to my QUALCOMM and that would tell him when and where i was at any given time giving him more information to add to any log violations. (BSing or not i have been unable to find out)
so to me its not worth it to mess with them that much, but i understand where some still do, 90% of the time now i shut down before i need too
but thats what the law requires.
there is only one way to stop drivers from ever driving illegal and thats to impose the same laws every other employer in the country must use minimum wage and overtime laws. but then freight wouldn't move as fast and and shipping rates would go up...... but wait woundt that help the driver.......hmmmm screwed again |

| Hey drivers, not intending to sidetrack the discussion, but - on another thread similar to this one someone did say to watch what you write...something about never knowing if any of the feds are also interested... |

You are required to log WHERE the duty status changes are.. not WHAT you are doing. Of course you are legally required to log a post trip. |

i left the truckstop this morning at 5am, got to the shipper at 8am, they say they wont begin to load me until 2pm, thus, by the time i am out of here, may be 4pm, thus i will have actually 3 more hours to drive........because according to my log book, my day started at 5am
this is what running a legal log book will do for you |

Does your company pay delay time for you to sit until then? If so, no big deal. |

no, my company doesnt pay delay time, and if they did, its nothing compared to what i would make if i was driving
thats not the point, the point is that we should all be legal, as shown by the example i just gave
so dont ever cheat on your logs.............NEVER |
