Unbelievable! Just finished Schneider two week academy, and was driving thru the Ontario mills parking lot and got popped for stop sign ticket. I don’t have a cdl yet so I guess I can pay the ticket off before I get it and still go to traffic school? The training instructor tells me after the fact that several students have been popped there, I wandered right into the spiders web. If you are in the Ontario area, beware of the Ontario mills shopping mall.
Any advice out there on how I should handle this ? |

| Call the court that has jurisdiction over that area and ask them what the penalty is. If it's the first one you ever had they may cut you some slack. |

Ontario Mills has had a MAJOR HARD-ON for trucks and truck drivers for a few years now. At one time, trucks would park there, then they started towing trucks off to impound. I've heard a number of stories and read others in some of the trucking magazines. It was to the point that one local driver wouldn't even go into the mall area. He parked his truck at the curb on the side of the street and made the customer come out there to get their product. I think that was about 4 or 5 years ago now. But, companies keep sending drivers there to face it all.
Yours is the first I've heard in a couple of years, now, but I doubt that the local attitude has changed any. In the past two years, I've turned down two loads going there and dispatch has decided not to try to send me there anymore. It's the BEST WAY to fight it. NO SERVICE. refuse to go there. |

I dont know about the rest of the country, but since when could you get a citation for running a stop sign, or any other infraction on PRIVATE PROPERTY.
Hell, I've been riding for 30 years and watched drag races and guys pulling wheelies in parking lots with the cops watching and they cant do anything about it unless the property owner calls them. |

a couple of my training instructors said the same thing, it is private property, he doesnt have the authority to issue tickets there.

Apparently that is the case then.
I know there is a grocery store/plaza near me and one of the managers husband is a cop. He's constantly there hiding between cars on his motorcycle, nailing someone for running the couple stop signs they have in there. |

They might just be preying on peoples ignorance of the law.

being im not familiar with OM, did you come to a stop and is there even a stop sign there?
if u came to a stop or there isnt a sign, i would have said **** You to the cop and tore the ticket up in his face. |

| one of the better laws in MD says that a sign must be posted. If you run a stop sign in a mall parking lot nothing can be done to you unless the mall calls a traffic complaint in to the police same with parking tickets, private property owner must complain to the police if there isnt a sign posted it will get thrown out of court (at least in baltimore county) |

as another thing to do...for anyone else that drives through there...
get going the parking lot speed limit and then stop COMPLETELY quickly at the sign...do that for a time and if the cops come up to u, give them the finger and drive off...
the problem is that the cops prey on everyone else b/c they think they r all high and mighty...all they are is a person whom constantly carries around a gun and a peice of tin on there chest...whoop dee doo...wow... |

Don't know where you got that from, there are several state and local ordinances that cover private property ie, due care by driver, reckless operation, there are also sections that pertain to strictly motorcycle such as how people are to ride solo and with passangers. That type of reckless operation is just probable cause for the stop and then the violations just begin. |
