Hey all Ive been absent from the board for a bit as I have been busy with my current job I havent had time to write. I was looking to go to school starting late this summer and finish up school in the fall. How is the job market for a student from MD who graduates from a ptdi school like allstate?? Now that ive saved some money school will be a littlle more affordable for me. What companies are still hiring students? Is freight slow or not really ?? Thanks for your help.

There seems to be a fair amount of freight in most areas where we go. Companies are still recruiting. I doubt that you will have a problem finding a job. We still have a lot of turnover in this business.

Most companies will still hire even in a bad economy. Companies manipulate the turn over rate. If the turnover rate gets too high than companies treat there drivers with a little more money, when the turnover rate is low companies squeeze veteran drivers hoping they will work for lower pay or leave. Then the processes repeats itself.

well even though I am trying to go to schol locally I did apply at schneider as I am close to carlisle. I would probably reapply at prime too. I applied there last year and they wanted to take me. I applied at schneider last year too but I think 2 accidents in 5 years in my personal vehicle killed my chances with them. now that one of those accidents dropped off because its been longer than 5 years and no tickets in 5 years, do you guys think I have a chance with schneider and how would I be percieved by other companies

You will have no problem finding a job....you may have to start at the low end of the pay scale, but after accumulating 6 months of OTR driving experience, better opportunities will open up for you....the key is knowing what are the good companies? Good Luck!

you can also try Crete and Schaffer as they also have a terminal just down the road from there and the pay will be higher

yeah i was looking into them too the big thing is the school that i need to find out if crete would take a graduate from north american trade schools in baltimore. Thats where ive been looking at attending i dont want to shove out almost 10 g and spend 6 months doing 420 at allstate career when i could go to NATS which is right downt he road from my current job, so traveling to my paying job wouldnt be an issue, the course is 320 hours you are done in 3 months and its half the price

Yep, I've been hearing Schneider all over the place looking for experienced drivers. I remember when JB Hunt rolled back their pay for new hires by a nickel a mile during the 2000-2003 freight recession. Then they starved out all their guys at top rate.

The raises in OTR trucking are all but over. There's no Hurricane Katrina cleanup, no housing boom, no stock market bubble...it's all done and gone. The consumer is tapped out and oil prices, which have doubled over the past few years, are projected to go higher still. Besides healthcare, our economy has not added many good-paying jobs...so many have been outsourced to slave-labor countries. Inflation is marching upward and wages are going nowhere...and since most economic activity is related to consumer spending, we in the transportation biz will be feeling the pinch for a long time to come.

Heard Wayne Lubner (Schneider)pleading for drivers tonight on my car radio. Hell, I thought that I had forgotten to unplug the Sirius. Nope.

It was WFBQ. 94.7MHZ Q-95 Indianapolis. Home of Bob and Tom.

Begging the next sucker to show up for the punishment.
