I've driven a quad axle Sterling dump. It was alright. They had worked out most of the major bugs that the Mercedes-Benz MBE motors had been having by the model year of that truck, the cab had a nice amount of space (when you're 6'2, it becomes an issue with any sort of day cab vehicle), and it did what I needed it to do. I won't say that it would be my first choice if I were to buy my own, but I didn't find it to be particularly horrible, either.

When my old job got them, I explained it to my wife thusly: Freightliner and Sterling are owned by the same company. Think of that company as being analogous to GM. In that frame of reference, a Freightliner is like a Chevy, and a Sterling is like a Geo - you can drive a Sterling for a long time if you take good care of it, but you're not going to be too terribly comfortable while you're doing it. Both of the Sterlings I've driven have had premature problems with 'driver comfort' amenities - things like cruise control, A/C and heat tend to have major problems unusually early (in my somewhat limited experience). But, like Jeff said, you can stretch out pretty nicely - I'm 6'4", and my legs have never been more comfortable in any other daycab.
