http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2008/may/28/semi-truck-crashes-into-colorado-river-near-laughl/

car hauler smoked his brakes going eastbound down the hill. the locals say it happened around 1500hrs. the bridge is also being inspected for possible damage to its structural integrity.

i'm currently sitting here in this dirt lot just south of that bridge. i was wanting to get through las vegas on the us95 during the overnight hours. now i'll have to wait until the bridge is reopened.

From that AP article:

Quote: Authorities say an out-of-control semi-truck has careered off a bridge and crashed into the Colorado River near Laughlin.

I wonder is that was .... "pun intended?"

Must've been a HAIRY ride! But, I thought I remembered runaway ramps down that hill?

Anyway.... Synchro.... why didn't/don't you just take AZ95 down to Needles, and back up the US95? Not that far around! :?:

What's the ETA for reopening the bridge?

i'm human. i make spelling errors just like everybody else, and didn't catch that one.

at any rate, the bridge was reopened at about 0330. there's just some orange barricades and yellow tape where the driver went off the road and into the river.

What are you talking about? You didn't MAKE the error! I cut and pasted from the article YOU only "linked" to!

STILL about a 12 hour delay. You could've been in Vegas by O' Dark Thirty!

FREDOG: I was thinking about how his "careening" might be "career" ENDING! i.e: His CAREER might have careened off the road and into the river!

oh yeah, forgot about that typo. i was still tired this morning after being up for nearly 22hrs prior and having only 4 hours of sleep. vegas wasn't my destination, though. i was looking to get to hawthorne, nevada for a small 10hr break and then off to the final for a yesterday morning drop at the walmart dc just east of sparks, on usa parkway. all that wreck did was delay my travel time through vegas and on the business 95. i hate driving on that during the daytime. i was planning for a night time drive through there with minimal traffic.

either way, the drop has been made, red tagged an empty trailer, and found an even better one not too long ago.

I got there after it happened and pulled into the the same lot. Talked the the wife on the phone and was telleing her about it....I only was able to see one car on the trailer and couldn't figure out how he smoked em. Yes there is a runaway ramp about a mile from the bottom. Syncrosonix, you could have run down to Needles or else ran down to Aztec (at the Safeway), taken a right over the river another right at the stop sign, and back to 163. Course DOT was set up at Railroad Pass in Henderson.

how long were you in there? i pulled into the dirt lot at about 2030 and backed in next to a dropped may trailer.

i saw the thinger saying to use aztec as an alternate route. i didn't feel like going. i had all day yesterday to make my drop delivery. i took the time to go on the boat to laughlin and visit the riverview casino buffet. :D
