My father is in need of more info. He saw that they hire in our area in upper michigan and there isn't alot of companies that do hire up here. He was wondering about home time and average take home pay. And how they treat their drivers. He has never been and owner operator or lease purchase operator. is this a good company to start as an O/O?

There are several drivers here that drive for Davis. Check out the thread titled "High-Seas to Highways" by devildice. He started out as a company driver, took the chance and switched to O/O. He likes it there, and it sounds like he's doing ok.

im an o/o leased to this outfit, and a "pal" of ole double d's

right now those lease trucks are being turned back in, slowly but surely, a few a month

a long time o/o has left, myself and a few other O/O's are planning on leaving

the family atmosphere is gone, the bottom line is all that matters
$400/week truck payment,$600/month trailer rent and other minor deductions (like the $2500 they charge for a beat up bang board and rusted chains),....dont plan on taking a paycheck for 4-6 weeks

6 months ago i would have sent him thier with no fear of anything bad happening, but not now

4 dispatchers for the entire country, one has a foul attitude, one doesn't know squat about keepin a driver happy let alone making money ($1.27/mile before they take thier 20% cut anyone???), the other two are good, but be well perpared to average 300 mile d/h's for anouther $1.50/mile load (east of ole mississippi)

most of the poeple there are honst, hardworking poeple, but i dont expect them to stick around much longer

as i said im leaving.....for a history of my 13 months here, on the other truckerforum, in the o/o section is a long thread bearing a name simialer to this one with miles, rates and every other thing that has happened

look for DD, and chat with him

Ok thanks for the info sir. Yeah you never know what your getting into cause they all advertise the same. The best way is talk to their drivers. But up here as a company driver my dad who has been in the industry since i think 89 or 90 is making just enough so we can live, So he wants to go to O/O cause he wants to make more money and be home more often. The company he is at they just got higher health insurance rates so he would like to find a different company. I'm going to be doing some research for him while he is home on his vacation cause of my sister's graduation. Ill most likely be asking about a few companies if i can't find previous topics.

Again thankyou for the info.

Justin

yea my health just went up to....got to buy yer own policy when yer not a company driver

as for the money he wont make more right now....just trust me....im not even when i am runnin hard

right now, o/o is not the way to go

costs are jumpin fast, while rates remain flat and revenue is goin down

get ahold of DD.....he MAY have a differnt take on it, but i personaly would not do it, knowing what i do now

Although Davis has been good to me overall both as a company driver and leased O/O, I have to agree with everything that broncrider said. Things have and continue to change, some for the better, some for the not so better depending on your needs/wants.

Yeah, I talked to my dad and it seems like he is going to stay as a company driver. Idk if its going to be with the same company but he is going to stay as a flatbed company driver. I'll probly suggest some companies but let him do his own research. You never can be too sure about some companies. Every driver has different experinces. Some people like roehl my dad had a different experince.

Hey Justin08,

Way to go in helping your dad out!

Hope he finds (eventually) exactly what he's looking for.

Yeah...everyone is looking for that dream company but its never going to be what you want it to be. Its hard to find out what a company is like with out actually working for them yourself.
