Repairs to Interstate 5 from U.S. Highway 50 to J Street will close all northbound lanes for three weeks, followed by a similar closure for southbound repairs. Lane closures could begin as early as May 30.
C.C. Myers Inc. of Rancho Cordova was awarded the contract by the California Department of Transportation in February. C.C. Myers bid the project at $27 million -- well below a Caltrans estimate of $44.3 million. Known for fast turnarounds on major repair projects, such as the recent MacArthur Maze reconstruction, C.C. Myers is now planning to complete the project in about 6 weeks. The company had originally estimated 114 days to complete the project, but told Caltrans that with complete closures work could be completed in about 40 days.
Repairing the "boat section" of I-5, so called because it was built below groundwater level, will affect almost 190,000 drivers daily, Caltrans estimates.
Caltrans plans to first shut down northbound I-5 from Highway 50 to the J Street off-ramp for two weeks. Traffic will be allowed to enter I-5 north from the L Street on-ramp. Two northbound lanes will be open from L Street to Richards Boulevard. After that section has been repaired, Caltrans will close southbound I-5 from J Street to Highway 50 for two weeks, allowing restricted access from Richards Boulevard to J Street. The northbound section will then be closed for one week to seal it, followed by the southbound section. |

i've been seeing the signs for this for a while now. This is going to make things really bad, as if the rush hour times weren't bad enough.
Are you still delivering fuel for Interstate in Sac? (sorry if i got you mixed up with someone else  ) |
