| wow :o i met an owner operator looking for a driver on this site 3 months ago. so far we have a good relationship. he is not a rich company and his trucks are pretty old. still the pay is fair and the miles are better than i have seen for quite a while. i have had the standard breakdowns ei. starter, computer. i decided it was faster paying repairs out of pocket. i was reimbursed next pay period. it works for me. we gotta keep this truck running. i have bought several tires and been repaid quick. this site has been real cool with good advice. running for a small fleet 3 trucks, is an alternative for experienced drivers to taking a low paying job with some of the big companies. i am expected to run as an owner operator and fix any problem that comes up with the truck, if it is a major expense i gotta get approval. after 3 months i am offered the same benifits as any lease operator at my expense. am paid on 1099 form. the company i drive for gives me my dispatch over the phone and i am running pretty much a dedicated route. averaging 4800 mi. weekly. anyone ever have experience with small compnies like this before??? after 3 months i am happy more than with lease purchase with jct and arrow. more money than company driver with transport america or arrow. any replies welcome |

| medicall i gotta pay myself as o/o same prices. still pay is good. 1099, well i claim everything ceptin' fuel. still i love the freedom of being o/o without all the probs. and more than a company driver |

Reads like a line of BS to me.
Your making a killing with 480 miles a week?
Your thrilled to be paying operating expenses out of your pocket?
Your making more than an Owner Operator OR a Lease Operator, while being paid on a form 1099???
Lets be realistic...the guy you are driving for has the pleasure of operating his truck on your dime. Sure...he pay's you back..in time....but...How much does he pay you back? How much have you been shorted?
Sounds like an old game that's been around for years...one day your gonna get shafted hard..and will have paid the bills for having had the pleasure. |

| ok yea i ain't geting rich. and i was joking about 480 figure closer to 4800 and yea it is not for anyone who is happy driving for a company. sure there is a risk. i store my chopper at his garage. give me a bigger risk. |

i wanna know how your getting 4800 miles a week?
hey, as long as your deal works out in the end and you clearing $700+ a week. sounds good. i dont think theres alot of decent options out there for new folks. i work for a small company. (40 drivers).
i wouldnt want to work for a big company if i can ever help it..good luck |

Aside from RR's point..which is somethng you obviously have no concern's about........
I am an owner Operator. I have a 2001 International with over 900K miles on it..and understand all to well the $$$$ that go into keeping it fit for running...especially since I pull Hazmat. IF I hired a driver to run the truck...I would not expect that drriver to pay out of pocket to keep the truck fit. If I could not afford to pay for the repairs myself up front...I would not have the driver OR the truck on the road.
I'm perfectly will to take the risk to advance my future. Right now..the money is not what I was hopiong it would be...but then fuel is twice what it should be..and I understand the economics of it all..still and all...I'm not hurting. What I am not willing to risk is my life nor the lives of others...to make 10 cents. Not close to worth it.
As for him storing your chopper while you pay to drive his truck....it's the least he can do, given the profit you are making him. |

I don't believe for a minute he's running 4800 miles a week solo-- if he was he wouldn't 1) have any time to get on the internet 2) no time to shower-- -ever
I think 4000 a week can safely/easy to do- solo-- but adding that extra 800 miles -- that's pushing it
4000/7= 570 day 4800/7= 685 a day
Loose leaf logs?
Dropping trips/turns off the record
No Qual-com
Mechanical engine? (no Computer- record)?
he did say dedicated runs--- back and forth across the same lanes-- you can juggle a lot that way. |

I don't see any problems paying for minor repairs to keep the truck running. If he's payed back in full every time and you haven't had to use a credit card you're being a team player. Don't pay for an overhaul though :roll: :lol: :lol:
If you're happy with what you're doing, more power to you. I was under the same deal with atlas (1099 and out of pocket repiars) and didn't have a problem. Just don't piss each other off and you can keep a good thing going. |
