It's Photoshoped.
If it were real you would be able to see the contrast in the colors and numbers on the windshield, reflecting the windshields shape. I find it suspect though the numbers and information on the left has a different transparency than the map in the center of the picture.
I may be wrong? but it just doesn't look right. |

Perhaps it is, but it is pretty accurate.
1667.1 / 25:45:19
This would be the elapsed time and miles for the trip. The math would make the average speed just under 65mph.
289.1 / 4:41:22
That would be the miles to go and ETA. FYI it works out to 65.5mph which is the current speed.
11:29:54 mdt
Current time, Mountain Daylight Time.
For this to work logically the road would have to always be displayed as east/west otherwise the overlay would block the road view. Strange that a compass is missing. A grade indicator would be nice too.
Likely it is a Photoshop, but cool nonetheless :) |

Here's a low tech HUD that is currently out:
http://www.gtop-tech.com/index.asp?pid=309
And Microsoft filed a patent for an even more elaborate windshield HUD:
http://www.intechnews.com/2007/08/25/cars-microsofts-windshield-hud-has-lots-of-info-hopefully-never-crashes/
Which would inevitably end up like this.

| Actually, I think it's a screen shot from one of those 18 wheeler computer games. I think I've seen a similar shot in a magazine. |

Volvo has been testing a HUD for several years! they had a demo truck last year at GATS with it! The contrast you speak up does not do as you say, since the windshield is specially treated to display the HUD.
As far as the chips on the dash, they would not be in the way of the projector, as the one that I saw comes from the visor area! |

Very cool. Welcome to the future of windshield navigation/weather/trip statistics (standard equipment say in 15-25 years). |

More like 2 or 3 years! Buick had a heads-up back in the '80's (although limited, it was cool), Lexus and BMW have had them for a couple of years, and like stated earlier, Volvo may be closer than we think in releasing their version! |
