How long did they last Rev? I saw the crossfires, but liked the Cat's eye more. They seem durable,...but time will tell.

I have Crossfires on all my drives and all my trailer tires and they have all held up perfect. I had to replace one when my trailer tire blew and took it out but other than that I'm very happy with them.

I ordered them mail order from Iowa80

They lasted about 2 years before I began having problems with them. They seem to have the most issues around the stems. The metal is cheap and becomes weak. I will point out that I spend pretty much all of my winters in the North.

I think remote tire pressure monitoring is the way to go. With crossfires or cats eyes you can pick up a nail while driving and won't know it till it's too late. At least with a monitoring system you have a chance.

With Crossfires or Cats Eyes only the tire that has the nail will go flat. Both units shut down the escape of air from the good tire.

Although I don't have a trailer anymore, I have the Cats eyes on the tractor, 9 years now, never had any problems, I am real happy with them.

Rev, I run the short valve stems on both wheels.

You can get he extensions from these people

But you'll still have a flat, or maybe even a blowout. If you're heavy, you can't move.

Tire pressure monitoring may completely prevent that. It's also possible to save the tire.

Also check:

If I had super singles(I'm thinking about switching in the future) I'd have both products.

There's a company out of BC that's got a similar product, environmentally benign too. I looked into the tire inflation system by Safer for my tractor's wide-based. A little pricey but it might be in the cards on the next one.

I wish that I saw this before I bought the cat's eye,...I like that wireless system way more. Anyone want to buy a set of 105lb Cat's eye units for truck and trailer?
I'm taking offers that I can't refuse
I'll only add a 25% testing fee,....they work,....and you get to be part of a legend,..kind of like when they sent stuff into space and then said,...."it's worth more cause it went into space" well, I've been to Boston Mass. twice and then to Clearwater Florida,.....so they must be woth at least 25% more than I paid

I'm not having much luck with the Crossfires either. Sent one back to repair under warranty once and I think I have to send another one back now.

There was one wireless system I saw at the show in Kentucky, but if you took them off both tires to air up you had to make sure they both went back on the right tire. I think that can get confusing for some.

I think I am going to go for that automatic thing by Meritor for the trailer anyway.

$700 for the wireless systems just for 10 wheels? seems a bit steep coupled with the $650 for centramatics.I do like the one system that shows temp inside the tire too.

Are super singles still verboten in the prairie provinces?

They were legalized in Manitoba in August. But only for 80,000 lbs like Ontario. Quebec and I think BC allows the full 87,000 lbs with super singles.

Still essentially illegal in Alberta and Saskatchewan. You can only run them at single axle weights.
