The great can I drive it debate rears its ugly head again. :lol:
Class B cdl= ANY straight truck regardless of weight. Could be 27000 pounds or 120000 pounds.
You can also tow a trailer under 10,000 pounds behind that vehicle. There is some ambiguity in this as some states regulate a trailer and truck with a GVW of more than 10000 pounds needs a Class A whereas some states only go off the trailer GVWR.
Class A cdl= any straight truck or combination. Any weight either legal or permitted. Yes, straight outta school you could do heavy haul with 3 kazillion pounds down the grapevine legal, not that any company would let you.
You still need your endorsements for whatever you want to haul be it hazmat or tanker or passenger or the like. |

The 26K / 10k trailer rules in Washinton "can" be read one way, but if you go by the chart its something different :roll: The D.O.T. tries to pull that on us once in awhile. We can run with just a class C, for under 26K.
Monday I start a refresher for class A...because the D.O.T. don't really know the rules, but they got the ticket book, badge and gun. I'm glad the state will be paying for it :D |

The work is great, if the phone rings...You need to get out and get customers and they have to need stuff, "yesterday". If you get lots of customers and all they need stuff you can get another driver{s} and truck{s}. You have to keep expenses really low and save as much as possilbe, cause when things slow down {like now} the bills don't.
I was 5th truck, in a fleet of five. When the slow down showed up I knew time was short, even for P/T. It costs a lot to keep a truck & trailer on the street, parked. Its really bad if you got to put fuel in it. |
