| Why can't you go with a company like Swift, pull FreightBox for them for awhile, then see about switching to their flatbed division? |

I can virtually guarantee you this is the reason. Local experience counts for zilch in the eyes of most otr companies. It's almost like you never had a cdl in the first place.
I have to disagree with you. I had no otr experience in the last ten years, I drove locally and I had no problem getting on with a flatbed carrier. A good flatbed carrier that has a very low safe stat rating. We are told to log legal and take every precaution to make sure the load gets there in one piece. You just have to look around.
Anecdotal evidence at best. Certainly not the rule. As far as safe stat records are concerned, they give you absolutely no
indication of whether a company is good to work for.
I agree that it is not a rule. You said that you virtually guarentee that he is getting turned down because his experience was three years old. I didn't have otr experience for ten years and found a job that I am more than happy with. The bigger companies need to take time to look at the driver not just the experience level. I didn't bother with big companies. I found and applied to two companies (15 and 65 trucks respectively) and both offered me a job. One starting out at .41 cpm and the other offering percentage pay. Both are family owned. I didn't have a spotless record(speeding ticket two years ago) but both were willing to work with me to make sure I was a fit for them as well then both being a fit for me. I was just making the point that he shouldn't give up. If he has flatbed experience somebody will hire him and it doesn't have to be a half-assed outlaw outfit. |

I must agree. I see that you said MOST, because you are right, MOST OTR compaines donot count local experience. I have 10 years local/regional but according to the BIG companies, I have no experience.
According to local compaines, I have 10 years. :D |

Thanks to Ollie and his link I now have found out what my problem is.
Maverick put QUIT UNDER LOAD on my dac and NOT ELIGIBLE FOR REHIRE.
Yes I have the diputing process started. That is a slap in the face considering that my DM was totally understanding and found another driver to swap loads with me and then arranged for me to drop the truck off at one of their terminals.
I guess this is a warning kids that Maverick isnt as sweet and rosy and everyone once thought they were. |
