| 15K drivers? Boy I was way off from 3K. They multiplied like rabbits since I got off the road I guess. |

| I doubt it because the other day I got a flyer in the mail from these guys. It talked about how the economy is slow and how fuel prices are high and they said how they could keep me busy in these difficult times. It also stated a yearly income for OTR, so if they are going under someone needs to tell their recruiting department about it because they sure don't know. |

You don't want to see that!!! If it happens the entire trucking industry is in deep KaKa. If the trucking industry is in that deep, this country is in trouble!! You as a driver seriously reflect the status of the economy in the United States, if people would pay attention to the trucking industry they would be quickly be more aware of the economic situation rather than waiting to be told by teevee :cry: .... duh... |

or by what rush limbaugh says. my dad is one of those blind conservatives who believes that everything that man says, is the 100% truth, and does not question it. my dad doesn't see the old closed down warehouses and doesn't want to believe this country is/has going/gone to hell in a hand basket. he doesn't see what we all see on a daily or weekly basis. driving through east st. louis is a bit depressing. |

So this year it is Schneider that is being rumored to be going bye bye? This happens every year. Last year it was Swift due to major legal problems. The year before it was Werner before that it was JB Hunt.
Who knows what is going to happen? Schneider is such a big company though with so many divisions it's hard to think that they would be going under. |

Well that's not very nice. Another thing to think about, they employ over 3000 or so drivers right? If so, that's 3000 "Schneider" drivers knocking on all the other company doors.
Great if they went under..Freight may go to better companies and pay drivers better rates for there time. |

Actually, the opposite would happen. If a Swift or a Schneider went under, the waves it would cause in the industry would be rough for a long time to come. Freight would transfer over to rail in large amounts, hurting both the OTR and the LTL part of the industry.
I was listening to a news story this morning where one of the major railroads was reworking short haul rate plans in order to accomodate the influx the trucking freight they were already getting. Dump a big boy like Schneider and that would kick into high gear with most, if not all, the railroads. |

Why don't companies go to rail now? because they don't want to see Swift and Schneider go under? I don't think so. Is there rails going to all the retails store in north America? |

It's the uncertainty that a huge company closing would cause in the transportation industry. Customers are already nervous. The losses in the industy are enormous. But you only hear about companies like Jevic, WH, Rush, etc.
Long haul freight is going the way of the dinosaurs. Short to medium haul and LTL stand to benefit from more rail freight, but in the same vein, more rail freight takes freight off the roads and hurts everybody. It's an interesting paradox. |

Precisely. Rail is fine for lots of freight, but there are some things that it simply cannot do. Trucks can pick up and deliver freight almost anywhere, at almost any time, and do it (mostly) on the CUSTOMER'S schedule, not when it's convenient for the freight hauler. If a road goes there, so can a truck (usually). Until we build railroads which duplicate and overlay our roads and highways (which is impossible to do), rail will be a poor choice for the majority of the freight hauled in this country. |

Yes, there getting nervous because they are going to pay more to get there freight moved and maybe drivers aren't going be gouged as the weak are falling like flys.

For me this has been a blessing ,less waitng time for a load.
