A lot of people have asked me different questions about my computer setup in the truck, like which software, what keyboard, etc. Well, I made a site that lists EVERYTHING, along with a web link to all products, software, etc.

If you're interested, here's the link: http://www.freewebs.com/malaki86/

I'll try to get some new pics of the setup today. I'll have a few free hours, so I should be able to get em done.

outstanding setup..

I'm just wondering-- since "texting" while driving is becoming the latest "hot button" issue-- where they are cracking down on people text messaging while driving-- have you gotten any flak over all your setup yet at any DOT scale house?

I'm kinda holding off with the Ram laptop mount and anything like YOURS-- for fear of new anti-texting laws.

I've only had 1 instance that a DOT officer was at the door of my cab. He saw the monitor and started asking about it. So, I started showing him the GPS, DDL, etc. He was impressed and waved me down the road.

While in motion, I only use the navigation (CoPilot). Unless I can do something in a couple touches to the screen, I wait until I stop. Most of our shippers/receivers are already saved in my system, so I can pull them up normally in just a couple touches. The same for finding the next fuel stop/rest area. I won't touch the keyboard while driving.

I'd LOVE to do that. However, where I live, well, let's just say people are still about 2-3 decades behind. A couple of our O/O's like the setup, so I may be helping them set something up.

I'm already planning my "upgrade". There are a couple changes that I'll be making.

1 - The laptop will be replaced by a 2ghz CarPC (runs on 12v) and a 20-21" monitor

2 - The stand that I built to sit the laptop on works perfect - except you can't open the bunk. It's not so much an issue for me, but the mechanics don't like it when they have to get under there to do any work. My next "stand" will probably hang from the top bunk and be "foldable" to get it up and out of the way completely.

3 - I may upgrade the monitor in the front to a larger one. The 7" screen does great, but not so much for someone who's got terrible eyesight. I fought the doc to not give me bi-focals, so I have trouble seeing up close. The 10" will solve that, but I have to find a new home for it probably.

i've been stopped by dot and the wife has been three times, each time the laptop was sitting in the ram-mount with the gps and ddl running and they never said a word.

the only thing thay ever asked about was the cam on the fender. wanted to know how it worked and how we liked it.

the old ones (05-07) worked better than the new ones. the controls were better on the old ones when the sun would hit it. and colton is better at getting it pointed just right.

it did take sometime to get used to it.

CO dot got a kick out of it when he saw it doing a roadside on the wife, had to get up in the cab and check it out. thought it was cool
